Design Wall Tuesday

The big family camping trip of the summer is over. It was similar to all the previous ones... too much sun, lots of laughing, chatting and playing games, and not enough sleep. And for the Moms, it is way too much work. Cooking on a Coleman stove or over an open fire, and hauling water for cooking and washing dishes is not as much "fun" as it used to be when I was younger! And let's not even talk about the whole outhouse experience!

But memories were made, relationships were strengthened, and new members of the family ("add-ons" as we call them) were met. No bears were seen this year (read about the bear adventure here), but Granddog Max had a close encounter with a snapping turtle which left him with a sore nose!

Anyway, I missed "Design Wall Monday", but this quilt is on my design wall today. It's a bit of a hot mess. The project was started by a high school friend to gift to another one of our friends to celebrate becoming a grandmother. The creator of the project has no quilting experience and thought it would be "easy". The quilting was done without a walking foot and this photo doesn't show how hard it is going to be to put a binding on that wavy bunched up edge. My job is to add a kite or two, put on the binding and pass it to the next friends who will add more kites. I am trying hard to not let my quilter perfectionism get in the way of making a group gift full of good intentions for someone we love. It is what it is! Today I'm making binding for the kite quilt.

OH, too much work on the camping trip - next time the kids should get to haul water and wash dishes, LOL!! Cute kite quilt. I hope the binding goes better than it sounds.

sounds like an exciting camping trip when the bear showed up LOL - yes camping can be hard at times but luckily it is just me and hubby that do it now and I've got the routine down fairly well so it is not a lot of work and of course being able to wash the dishes in the motorhome is a plus although I still do a lot of cooking outside - have not encountered a bear in my campsite and I am so glad for that but a moose did walk though it once and an elk at a different time - but thankfully I was in the motorhome when that happened!

Oh Ya! Camping holidays. I always said afterwards I needed a vacation from my vacation! But good times anyway! The kites are cute, only us quilters notice the structural problems.

Lol,Camping and sleeping outdoors on the ground, lik a homeless person doesn't appeal to me as much as when I was younger. Glad the Bears stayed away. Cute project though a bit Wonky.

Maybe it is time for the younger generation to get into the mix! Getting the "add ons" to do some work would also make them feel more a part of the group. Good luck with your kite project. Binding it sure will be a tough one. Maybe you need to make some pleats or puckers as a decoration so the binding works. I have my own quilt for a friend's friend to finish but I put the borders on it and am quilting it so not as bad!

Cute bear meme!
You described camping as a mom perfectly. Our family camp is in two weeks and I am trying to psyche myself up for it. My kids are grown, but the grandkids still keep it an adventure!
Good luck on the group project. You aren't the one that has to bind it, are you?

I love the bear cartoon. Too funny! The camping is all about making memories - good and bad.

Camping is supposed to be fun for ALL. The work is supposed to be shared by all. Let the others get hungry enough.....
Love the bear cartoon.

I love the bear cartoon!! No camping for me if it involves wilder animals then my grandson! 😂 The quilt will be loved no matter what. Hugs,

Sounds like you had a great time with the family. Now that the SIT is older, my camping is limited to hotel camping. No more sleeping bags!
