I finished another knitted dishcloth just in time for Christmas gift giving. Can you tell what this one is? This red yarn is impossible to photograph.

Maybe if I make it a black and white photo? There... now can you see what it is? So cute and it is a free pattern by Kris Knits if you want to make your own.

I'm never sure when I'm knitting along if it's going to turn out or if I've totally messed up the design! 

I have one more embroidered tea towel to finish so I'll get to work on that today.

Slow Sunday Stitching

Welcome to the weekly hand stitching party!

It's the last Sunday before Christmas so I know all you hand stitchers are busy finishing gifts and wrapping up gifts. 

When I was visiting last week's blog link ups I was overwhelmed with happiness to see the names of stitchers from the Slow Sunday Stitching gang leaving so many kind, supportive and encouraging comments for other slow stitchers. This is exactly what I had hoped for in creating the weekly hand stitching party on my blog - you are just the best and I'm so thankful to have found you! 

I have 3 items to finish in the next week. I'm not very worried about it as I am quite accustomed to giving half finished projects as gifts!!

I am still knitting a Christmas face/dish cloth for a special gift. It's a very happy Christmas red and I hope the colour doesn't bleed when used. We'll know soon enough! 

And I'm starting the binding on a Christmas gift for my kids. I'm very excited to be in the home stretch and will blog about this project later in the week. 

But today... it's relaxation, hand stitching, and maybe a nap! What are you hand stitching today?

Slow Sunday Stitching

It's a busy time of year and there is a lot to be done for Christmas, but for a few minutes today, just breathe and stitch, and take a break from all your worries.

I'll be continuing my knitting and hoping to finish this in time for Christmas gift giving. I'm enjoying knitting with the straight needles and my goal for slow stitching time today is to be half way done this cloth.

Slow Sunday Stitching

Christmas is less than 20 days away, so this Christmas elf is starting to work herself into a bit of a frenzy. She needs a day off to simmer down, do some deep breathing, and set more realistic goals for what is actually doable in December.

Another tea towel was finished this week. This was one of my favourite designs to stitch. Maybe because it generated constant thoughts of chocolate?!?

These are the 4 towels I've stitched this year.

This pattern collection called Stitcher's Revolution has been so fun to work on play with this year. I just need to finish one more towel before Christmas.  The iron transfer is finished so I'm ready to start stitching today.

Does anyone have a recommendation for an embroidery kit that I could purchase for a gift for a brand new beginner stitcher? If you know of a good resource for me, leave a comment or send me an email.

Slow Sunday Stitching

Welcome to the weekly hand stitching party! It's a safe way to hang out with friends, enjoy some relaxing stitching time and there is a 0% chance of getting covid! Staying safe at home is the goal these days and stitching helps you to stay sane while you're at home.

I am ready to stitch the chocolate bar on my embroidered tea towel and hope to get this finished today. I'm also knitting a Santa dishcloth but just got started on that. It's time to get busy finishing up Christmas gifts!

Slow Sunday Stitching

A hearty welcome to all you stitchers! Thanks for dropping by to see what the Slow Sunday Stitching crew is creating this week!

I finished knitting a gift for the US Thanksgiving coming up this week. Can you see the pattern? I think I made a mistake on the nose (beak? snood?) stitching area? Oh well, I tried my best and it will be conversation worthy if nothing else! If you want to knit up a turkey for the holidays, click here for the free Ravelry Gobble Cloth pattern.

I wanted to start a new dishcloth with this new-to-me yarn. I had to deal with a "hank" for the first time... very annoying. I followed the instructions here, and used a chair to wind the yarn into a useable ball. Just wondering.... why doesn't yarn come in a useable ball format?!? 

Anyway, I ended up having this big knot to deal with. I reminded myself that "patience is a virtue" as I wasted my precious stitching time trying to untie this knot.  I'm finally ready to start the knitting for this Christmas gift which will hopefully turn out better than the turkey!

But first, for today's relaxation I am hand stitching a binding to finish up a placemat. These are my favourite binding needles. Will I have enough thread on this spool to finish the binding?

Slow Sunday Stitching

Welcome to the weekly hand stitching party! It's time to take a deep breath, pick up your needles and threads, and put some stitches in your project.

It has been such a busy week at work that I haven't had the time or energy to sew or blog at all. So today I'll be sitting with my feet up, hand stitching the day away while I watch the Masters golf tournament. It certainly is different with no spectators during the covid tournament.

I'll start by stitching these gold french knots on my Stitcher's Revolution tea towel. The progress is slow and steady, but I still have one more tea towel to finish before Christmas, so I better pick up the stitching pace a little bit!

Last night I was stitching along while watching the historic events unfolding in the USA. It was probably what most of you were doing too. I did make a little bit of progress, but not nearly as much progress as was seen last night in accomplishing equality for women!

Today I will be putting more embroidery stitches into this tea towel. Our Halloween candy was not collected by trick-or-treaters this year (but we had to have some just in case) . "I'm no quitter" so let's dig in... stitch, eat chocolate, stitch, eat chocolate. But don't get chocolate on the stitchery!

This week I put hand stitches into 2 projects. First I finished stitching 200" of binding of my October UFO. 

And when that was done, I finished my new pillow by making a ladder stitch on the edge. It gives such a nice finish... almost invisible.

Now that both of my finishing jobs are done, I'll be back to knitting my Thanksgiving gift and working on my Siddi quilt.

Slow Sunday Stitching

 Welcome to the weekly hand stitching party!

Lots of hand stitching is going on here. I finished the machine quilting on my October UFO yesterday and enjoyed some late night hand stitching on the binding. This photo shows 2 of the backing fabrics. I'm so happy to be able to meet my quilting goal this month and will enjoy the binding each night until it's done.

And I'm still on that cloth knitting craze that Gail got me addicted to! I finished 3 cloths that I gave to my daughter for her birthday - the seahorse, the whale and the octopus. I felt like each one was a little miracle when it was done. And my daughter loved them, so that was doubly wonderful!

I got a new tool to measure needle size and discovered that when I knit the green octopus cloth I was using 2 different sized needles! It turned out okay anyway, but a little smaller than the others (which were knitted on circular needles). This brown cloth is for an American Thanksgiving gift ... bet you can't tell what the design is!?

Slow Sunday Stitching

Welcome to the weekly hand stitching party! 

It has been a spectacular fall here in Southern Ontario with a display of colour like I can't ever remember. I have taken many photos to enjoy over the winter to remember these beautiful sunny days.

Last weekend I took a class with Sujata Shah of The Root Connection. 

My Kawandi quilt was inspired by the beautiful fall colours. It was my first online quilting class and I really enjoyed it. 

This kind of quilt making is all by hand and I loved that about it! I didn't have the right needle, but I made it work for the class. You can see that my first row of stitches (which goes through many layers of fabrics) was much bigger than my second row.

Here is the corner of the quilt with the "fula". The Siddi quilt is considered naked without them, so there's my version of a fula. You can see that my stitches are starting to look a little less like they were made by a drunken sailor!

It made me feel like my old (pre-2020) self again seeing beautiful quilts, learning something new, hearing about Siddi quilt makers, and doing some hand stitches together with other women around the world.

Slow Sunday Stitching

Welcome to the weekly link up for hand stitching enthusiasts! It is Thanksgiving weekend here in Canada and I am thankful for so many things, including this international community of enthusiastic and talented hand stitchers! I wish we could have had the second annual slow stitching retreat this year, but COVID 19 has made that impossible. I am pondering whether I have the technical skills to host an online hand stitching event. Would you be interested in such a thing?

As I have mentioned many times over the past few months, the revamped blogging platform has presented many challenges and frustrations to us "golden oldie bloggers", but I am persevering and finding humour in the random issues... like the way the font doesn't stay consistent throughout one blog post for some unknown reason! So weird!

I have done a lot of hand stitching this week. I finished a placemat to donate to "Meals on Wheels" and enjoyed hand stitching the binding. 

I started a new knitted facecloth this week.  I'm trying a new kind of yarn and a new circular Nova needle but I don't like it because it's too short for my hands. If anyone wants this needle let me know and I'll mail it to you. I know I won't use it and it would be perfect for someone with smaller hands.

Do you see the difference between the needle (on the top) that I was using and this new one on the bottom? It was just not comfortable, so I pulled the stitches off and started over on the larger needle.

Also this week I took a fantastic class by Sujata Shuh on making Siddi quilts. It was a wonderful class and I highly recommend it if you enjoy hand stitching. I will write more about it next Sunday, but let me just say for today that it really filled my bucket! And those needle pullers were a life saver for my hands.

Slow Sunday Stitching

This past week had me hand stitching 237" of binding to finish a lap quilt and a mini quilt before the end of September. This past week I also did a bit of hand embroidery, and finished another knitted cloth. I took a fancy photo to show that the cloth matched the colour of the flowers in the window boxes of my garden shed. But the photo doesn't show the seahorse design at all! Slow Sunday Stitching

Welcome to the weekly hand stitching party!

We are having spectacular fall weather here this weekend. This time of year is visually beautiful with the golds, reds, yellows and oranges, it's the perfect temperature to enjoy stitching outdoors, and fall even smells delicious to me! 

We are enjoying some of the flowers that are still in bloom. This is my hand embroidery project. I started the line of blue thread above the word 'chocolate' but decided it was too much blue, so today I'll be taking those stitches out and selecting another colour.

And I will also be hand stitching the binding on my September UFO. I am so excited to have this quilt almost finished and just love stitching the binding. So it's going to be a great day with my favourite stitching in my favourite weather on my favourite day of the week!

I am slowly getting to be friends with the new blogger system and finding out what I can and cannot do with the new program. I was delighted that the link up worked last week, so hopefully my good luck will continue with today's coding. We would love to know what you are hand stitching today. Slow Sunday Stitching

It's Sunday and you know what that means... it's time for the weekly hand stitching party! We hope you will pick up your needles and thread or yarn and start making some stitches. 

Blogger has switched over to the new system and I'm learning how to blog again. 

I know some bloggers have managed the change very well (I'm looking at you Barbara and Lyndsey!) but most of us are struggling, and some are experimenting with other blogging platforms. So bear with me while I see if an old dog can teach herself how to do the tricks that she used to know how to easily do. I have already learned that we can't click and drag photos like we used to do to place them where we want them. See, I am trainable!?!

And if you are a blogger who is struggling, don't give up! Keep trying and just keep posting, no matter how weird or incorrectly formatted the blog posts turn out to be.

This is what I'm adding stitches to this morning. 

This is my fourth Stitcher's Revolution tea towel. This saying is perfect for the week in which the blogging world was forced to change to a new system. We are not quitters, so let's keep stitching and blogging (and drinking tea and eating chocolate!)
