The colour of the month for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge is light blue. I have been finishing up a few blue spool blocks and went in search of the pile of blocks to see if I have enough to start putting this quilt together. Wow, do I ever!!
These are just the blue and purple spool blocks on the design wall. You can see on the bottom left of the design wall that I have a few more spool blocks to sew together into the 4 patch blocks. In playing around with different ideas, I decided my favorite layout was the on point setting with an extra spool between each block around the edges. And I think I will make the outside triangles from light scraps and then decide if it needs a border or not.
I also decided to make the spools my main Rainbow Scrap Challenge project for the month of December. It would be awesome to have these blocks into a finished quilt top by the end of the year!

Wow, there are a lot of spools there. I am looking forward to continuing to watch your progress.
I have been attracted to old patterns lately and the spool is one of them - I recently saw a new spool design on pinterest that I had never seen before and it is very interesting. I like the splashes of red in yours

The on point setting really works with those blocks. It's going to be a beautiful scrap quilt when you get it all finished.

I wondered if you had enough for a quilt - yup you sure do. It's going to be gorgeous. Like the idea of the on point with extra spools along the sides.
So cool to see them all playing nicely together. Love the on point setting too.
When I saw the thumbnail picture of this quilt on my blog roll I was smitten. This is a wonderful setting--looks so pretty!
These are SO FUN Kathy!!! Love seeing them together like this. I think your idea to focus on them in December is an excellent idea!
You must have as many scraps as I do and you make the best use of them!

This is a real delight! Love the way you have it set.
Your spools - the colors, the arrangement - are just beautiful! How big are they? (It's hard to tell sometimes without a point of reference.)

I love the way the spools look when all laid out. Great pattern! A new quilt in December--isn't that great?
love how your spools are coming together. They will make a great quilt
Oh, love that setting. I'm going to watch what you do on this because I'll be right behind you doing the same thing (when I get enough spools). So, how many spools is enough? And what size quilt do you think you will have?
