Design Wall Monday - Churn Dash and 9 Patch
Here are some of the blocks for my current project on the design wall. These are the churn dashes from Barb's block swap and the 9 patch blocks I've been sewing. I'm loving how they look together! There is a circular element that develops when these blocks are side by side, and as I continue to sew more blocks and put them on the design wall, I'll be thinking about how to emphasize that circular movement when it's time for quilting.
But first... let's not get ahead of ourselves! There is still a lot of sewing and pressing to finish before the quilt top construction can begin.
And giving credit where credit is due... this layout design idea came from a photo I saw on the internet while googling "churn dash blocks" and I was able to trace it back to a quilt by Mary Manson called Colorways.

Wow I love that circular motion. Great illusion. The blocks look great together.
happy stitiching
Such great movement in that design, looking great!
I really like this layout of Churn dash and Nine Patch blocks - it creates such nice diagonal movement.
The nine patch with the churn dashes looks different than I thought it would. Really a nice design formed when placing them together.
Those blocks look great together. I really am a fan of churn dashes but I don't think I've ever seen those two blocks put together. Enjoy working on them.
What a terrific combination! My churn dashes are mellowing as I tackle other projects.
Love love love!!! Simple blocks, make fabulous quilts!
Awesome Design! I love the secondary pattern it creates. Have fun with your stitching and take inspiration whereever you can. Thanks for sharing where it came from.
Neat design going there--Love finding ideas on Internet--just don't have enough energy to do them all!!!!
enjoy, di
What a brilliant layout of the two blocks! It is coming together very nicely.
Love this layout! It has a very similar feel to kaleidoscope blocks with a lot less fiddly-ness :)
This layout is so beautiful! The block off and even create secondary designs!Thank you for sharing!
I’ve always admired this setting too! Looking beautiful, Kathy.
These two block designs together create great movement. Simple blocks make some of the best patterns!
Love your plan of combining those two blocks! :)
I love how this is coming together. It's the best setting I've seen.
Love the secondary pattern with these blocks. Congrats on all the progress on this fun project.
Oh, love the illusion of curves in your churndash project! Sew pretty :-)
Hi Kathy- I've been trying to get in touch with you regarding the BOM, please shoot me an email! thanks. Jacquelynne
Wow! I love this layout and just may use it. Do you mind? I, too, am thinking of some great quilting ideas with this. My blocks are currently eye candy on my design wall waiting for inspiration. This just may be it. Thanks for sharing.
Fantastic! What a great layout!
Very cool layout! Love that my block is part of your quilt!
I love the combination of the two blocks together. It's great. I can see the circular element much better in your quilt than on Mary's quilt although both are great quilts. Enjoy! ;^)
This is a great design! I would never think to put these two blocks together.
