Scrappy Saturday - Spools

While I had the large portable design wall up from last Friday, I thought I would take the opportunity to put all my spool blocks on the wall and see where the project is at.

I have been making spool blocks since July 2013, and definitely have enough blocks to make a good size quilt. How many are there? 580 spools are in this layout so far! That's a lot of scraps!

I had planned on a totally scrappy layout, but then was drawn to try a rainbow layout, especially since this is a long time rainbow scrap challenge project!
"Charity"

I made the last four purple spool blocks for this quilt on my new/old Singer Featherweight. I got her working, and am so relieved she is not a boat anchor! She sews a very pretty stitch with good tension, and is a delight to sew on! I had to put a piece of tape down to mark the 1/4" seam.
I am taking Swooze's suggestion made on a previous post and will call her "Charity". It seems like the perfect name for this machine considering how she came to join my herd.

I just got my featherweight working again and a new foot pedal - now the tension is off a little bit so I need to play with her again this weekend - maybe I will finish my tumbler quilt on it - hope to get the stitch right.

Charity is very nice and has found a good home with your herd! Your spools are great. When I first looked at the quilt I saw spinning pinwheels...then read and realized they were spools. They look wonderful. Wishing I had started them way back when!

The setting of your spool blocks is great. It gives the quilt such a great back and forth movement. So happy your machine is working. What fun to think of her history.

You've probably told us in a previous post, but I looked at your blocks and wondered just how many there are. It reads like a great wash of color. I know you'll have fun putting it together. Charity is a sweet name for your featherweight. I am back from my guild's quilt retreat and continue to be amazed at the quilters that lug their monster sewing machines along - last year, I took my featherweight and they mostly regarded it as an antique or a toy. This year I took my 301. (I think some of the ladies regard ME as an antique for your sewing machine choices ;-)
