Scrappy Saturday At The Alamo

The Rainbow Scrappers are working with purple scraps this month. I had a few yellow stars to finish sewing from last month, and this week have made a few more purple Alamo Stars to add to the collection.

Some enquiring young minds (Janet and Angie) wanted to know how many Alamo Star blocks I have made over the years. So I actually got out the bin and counted.

This is what the block collection looks like in their storage bin.
There is a grand total of 218 stars as of last week plus the 9 blocks made this week. If I arranged these stars 14 blocks across by 16 blocks down, my quilt would measure 31.5" x 36"... just a wallhanging size.
Maybe that's why I didn't count them before because it's discouraging and a long way from a bed size quilt amount!
What to do?  Keep plugging away sewing little stars for the next couple of years?  Or make a wallhanging instead of a bed quilt?

My vote is that you keep making stars until you don't want to make them. Then you should stop regardless of the size. They woul be stunning as a bed sized quilt, but adorable as a wall hanging. As long as you are having fun, the rest is just a bonus,

I was thinking the same thing as Angela. As long as you are enjoying the process - keep going! Stop if you've had enough, regardless of the size. They will be stunning when assembled, no matter what!

I have several slow projects that will be full size quilts some day. I keep plugging away on them a few blocks at a time in between all the other 'faster' projects. In this day of instant gratification it is good to have the anticipation of someday! But like they said, when it is no longer fun, make a wallhanging.

Wow! I didn't realize that your little Alamo stars were so tiny - how big are they? They're adorable ... and even more so because they're tiny - I love little blocks.

When you work tiny and need lots of those little blocks - the key is to not count. Fill that container.

what size are your little stars? I am making some Lemoyne Stars and mine well be 4 inch finished size and I know I need a lot of them to do anything much with them too.

I'd also be interested in the size and measurements!

After a couple more years, you'll finally have enough.

You can add solid square between the Alamo stars to make it bigger. Or do a medallion and add a solid border then more as a pieced border.I see rainbow borders. Use EQ7 to play with it.

Oh, wow. Sorry I asked. : )
(But thanks for putting me in the "young minds" category.)
Making them until you don't like making them sounds like good advice--unless you would always regret that you didn't make a bed size quilt with them. Maybe if my brain forgets the number (since it really isn't a young mind) and I ever ask you again how many you have made, you can just tell me to mind my own business!
Loving them in purple!

That's quite the pile of little blocks. Very impressive. You could always go for something in between like a baby quilt or a lap quilt.

I say keep making, but in the end set them on point with a plain block in between!

They are so cute! As long as you are enjoying making them I'd continue. Stop when they are not fun anymore and make the quilt whatever size it is at that point.

What a great stack of stars - hope you'll post the quilt when you have it finished.

I love your blocks and always enjoy your gorgeous progress. As long as you keep making them, I'm happy to enjoy!

Keep on going in between other projects. You will have an amazing quilt one day. Better than a wall hanging
