Blogging in 2013??

My sister asked me why I spend so much time blogging when I am so busy. Good question! It gave me an occasion to reassess. I have been blogging since 2006 - that is 6 years of commitment to this regular practice!
I thought again about why I blog, and if I want to continue.
I came up with a list of reasons:
1) I love quilting, and photography, and I also enjoy writing. Blogging combines all of these enjoyable and creative tasks.
2) A blog is a quilting diary that I can read, and revisit years of projects started (some are even finished!) and connect to some great quilty memories. Also, when I give a quilt away to someone, and I know I won't see it again, it is great to have a blog post with photos and details of the project.
3) It gives me a great sense of accomplishment reflecting on all those stitches taken by hand, and with my machines. So much of what I do in my life, as a woman, as a mother, as a homemaker, and a social worker, is invisible work. No one knows the amount of thought, time, effort and life energy I put into these tasks, except me. But with a quilting blog, I can see the tangible results of my efforts.
So, will I continue my blogging habit in 2013?  Absolutely!
Stop by on the weekend for Slow Sunday Stitching to see what I'm hand quilting (in the above photos) this week!

I agree whole-heartedly with all your reasons for blogging AND add one more: the connections with other quilters from around the world! It's like attending a quilt guild meeting just sitting at my computer.

I'm so glad you decided to continue blogging! I was worried for a moment when I read the title of this post! I blog for the same reasons. Reading blogs like yours gives me inspiration for my own quilting projects. hanks for sharing your quilts through your blog.

WOW, I thought you might say you were going to stop blogging and it made me kind of sad.......I would have missed you. But now I'm happy to see you are going to continue. :)
I love that so much is shared on blogs, even though most of blog content is for personal reasons. Be Happy......great way to start the day.

Kathy, I am also one who enjoys your blog every single time you post. But I do know it is a huge obligation if a person takes it seriously, as you do. So thank you so much for sharing with us through your blog! I love seeing what your working on and your beautiful projects. I especially enjoy your "Slow Sunday Stitching"...and I recognize what you are working on in this photo, but I won't spoil the surprise, LOL. I can't wait to see the finished project though. This one is on my "Wish List" as I haven't been able to get the pattern yet. Big Hugs...

I am so glad to hear that Kathy! I really enjoy your blog. I love seeing all the pretty quilts you are working on, but most of all I love that you share what's on your heart and let us connect with you as a person as well as a quilter :*) Looking forward to blogging together in 2013!

I do have a blog, but to tell you the truth I am a much of a lurker/stalker than a commenter and poster. I joined some blog hops that forced me to post occasionally.... :). But what I love is seeing what others are doing, laughing and enjoying their stories, sometimes unfortunately share their frustraions and their losses. Am really glad you are going to keep blogging!! Here's to another fun year!

Like you, Kathy, I've been blogging since 2006 - six years is a long time, isn't it? Hard to believe we've been blog friends for that long. :-)

I've often given thought to discontinuing my blog but I'd miss so many things. And, I believe I'd miss them more than I truly realize I would. Your post provides food for thought - thank you for sharing.

You'll be here in 2013 and so will I. I enjoy reading your blog every day that you post. I'm constantly impressed and inspired by the quilts that you show. And I've been delighted with the slow stitching Sundays. It's encouraged me to get out the hand needles and stitch. Thank you for that.

You are so spot on about the 'invisible work'. Stitching really helps me to labor through the responsibiltiy of being a good parent especially. The stitching is for me, but often, it's the time spent doing it that ulitimately helps them.:) Keep up the good work Kathy! (And your Slow Sunday Stitching Efforts are much appreciated by me as well.)

What a scare! Thank you so much for continuing to post next year. I love seeing what you are working on and hearing your perspective on life. You inspired a lot of us to do some hand work and hand quilting from the sounds of the comments. A big Thank you for everything you do.

Someone recently asked me why I blog. My answer was "because I like to." I do it for all the reasons you wrote and for one more. Most of my family lives hundreds of miles away and I pretend I am writing to them and that they are interested. No one sews or quilts and no one is really interested but while I am writing, I can pretend and "feel the love." ;-)

Had me worried, too, Kathy. Glad to know that you will still be around to inspire and entertain!

Yeah, good choice. I have come to really enjoy so much fun by visiting such great blogs like yours. You are very good at spelling out why something worked or did not work for you. I also like to see your projects and ideas. Maybe this will be the year I become an active blogger & it will be because of great bloggers like you!!!

I've just been blogging for two months but I am loving your 2nd reason. I'm terrible at documenting anything or taking pictures of projects and keeping them organized. Thinking ahead to having years of projects to look back at makes me really excited!

I am very glad you are sticking around too. I enjoy reading your blog and seeing all of the those UFOs that seem to come out of the 'bottomless closet"! Thank you for sharing!!

Your reasons for blogging are much the same as mine! Plus, I just love that creative world we so love is easily accessed anytime we want to visit our friends :)

I am sooooo happy you decided to continue blogging - your blog is GREAT!! And here is another perfect reason - a friend wanted to see a quilt I had completed more than 2 years ago. I took a trip through my 2010 blog posts, reminiscing and loving every minute of it, until I found the quilt!! Our blogs truly are journels of a very fun part of our lives!!
