2020 group quilt blocks |
After much discussion (which I find stressful but other people find enjoyable!) this was the final block layout with black sashing strips added.
Then there was (too) much lengthy discussion about borders, which was peppered with intense discussions about an upcoming family wedding, and health concerns of various family members, plus a very active puppy desperately trying to "help" us! It was exhausting to keep the focus on finishing the quilt!
This was the scrappy border that we finally decided on and I think it looks terrific!
This is my favourite photo that shows some group members moving blocks around. Once the order of the border sections was decided on, the sections were passed to the sewers, and somehow the whole thing magically came together.
Except the corner blocks.
There was much debate about those, and eventually I brought the quilt home, made the blocks I like and now the quilt is at the hand quilters!

Such a beautiful quilt
Wow, Kathy! That border does makes the quilt! It ties is all together nicely!! Love that and it'll be loved and treasured by someone for sure. Great job group! I just had a quilt meeting yesterday and there were some of those intense discussions around how to do certain quilts LOL....they are tiring, but eventually a plan is made and it all comes together!
That quilt is simply stunning! I was exhausted just hearing about the group discussion... oh, believe me, I understand! ;) Bottom line-- the final product is a treasure and will bring in lots of money for the cause. :)
The border makes this quilt - love it - my favorite colors - Autumn!
This one is a beauty! Especially love the border treatment.
Very nice, and love the borders too. Wonder what you have designed for the corners?
I agree, long discussions with everyone having their say with different ideas n be very stressful, and noisy, indeed.
What a beautiful project and so fun to see all of the collaboration. The Mennonites will be thrilled to add this to their auction - I'm certain it will generate lots of interest (and bids!).
I know how those "discussions" can go! Love your choice of border for this one. I have some of those blocks too or did I put them in a quilt!?!?
What a great quilt you all have made together. Glad all the discussion worked out to a beautiful quilt. I can't wait to see what the corners look like!
Great border for that quilt.
That's why our guild has 2 or 3 people who decide what the relief sale quilt will be, the members just make blocks! It looks like a lovely quilt! When is your relief sale?
Every group needs someone like you to keep the focus on the project. It is amazing how easily the task at hand can become forgotten while the social side of things takes over. I actually chuckled a bit as you described your experience. I would have been right there with you. I enjoy being social with the best of them, if that is the purpose of the gathering.
That said--love the quilt. Fall colors call to me, and that border is a fantastic frame!
