Treadling with Bonnie

Were you able to catch QuiltCam last night? If not, you can watch it anytime on the archived version on Quiltville's YouTube channel.
I enjoyed treadling with my 1901 Singer Treadle as I listened to Bonnie's latest adventures.

While stitching, I had to wind a bobbin so I thought I'd show you what the treadle vibrating shuttle looks like. It's very different bobbin case than the modern machines have and it takes a bit of getting used to.

The long bobbins fit inside the shuttle and this is how it gets tucked into position in order to sew.

Isn't that so cool?!

  1. Very cool! One day I will get my treadle machine fixed up so that I can use it. I am looking forward to it!

  3. I haven't watched Bonnie, I tried once last year but the connection wasn't right or something and it didn't play smoothy I never got around to checking it out again, I will have to do that,

  4. I used to have at least one treadle with the long shuttle. I never tried to fill the bobbin as I didn't sew on any of the machines. Doesn't look like one would hold much thread.

  6. I've wondered about those shuttle bobbins. Interesting!
I haven't watched Quiltcam in such a long time--and I always forget it is archived now. But I usually find my sewing time in the evening while DH relaxes, so I set up in the back of the family room so we can visit as I stitch and he watches TV. Kind of eliminates the possibility of watching Quiltcam, too.

  7. Amazing that with all the technology we have we quilters are loving the old machines. I have my featherweight and do most of my patchwork on it. I got home from guild to late to join Bonnie on live quiltcam so watched the archived version. Her last quilt cam, my email to her got read on the air...very exciting as you know, I have heard your name as well!!!
