Scrappy Saturday Blues

It's the last saturday of the month and I have finished two blue scrap blocks for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.

The first block is Mad City Mama (a pattern by Bonnie Hunter in her Leader Ender book). This is a great scrap pattern and uses 133 blue scraps and 12 yellow scraps. That's a lot of small pieces!
I'm not sure I really like how the yellow wonky corners turned out, so I'll try something different on the next one.

When that block was done, I sewed the first Westering Women block. It has a lot of unusual measurements... lots of 7/8's, but the block turned out to be the right size. I used blue scraps because they were all over the cutting table. I'm not sure if this will be a RSC project, or if I will make all the blocks in blue, or if I will start over and make a new 1st block in reproduction fabric. I have a whole month to decide before the next block is posted.
To see more RSC projects, hop over to SoScrappy.

Love your blue blocks. That is a LOT of small pieces in that first one! I have that Leader and Ender book. Need to check it out. Currently doing a log cabin as my leader and ender.

You've used up a ton of scraps there. Love both of your blocks.

Beautiful blocks, for sure. So good to use up scraps, some of them really old ones. With small pieces like this, I feel I can reaaly use it all. The first block is good, but if you like to change it, maybe you could make the middle piece yellow too?

Your Western Woman block is so pretty and that Mad City Mama certainly does eat up a LOT of scraps!! Good luck with figuring out what to do about the wonky yellow centers.

That Mad City Mama block does use up a lot of scraps. It looks great in yellow and blue. So fun that you have combined the new block of the month with the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. A great way to start something new without completely starting from scratch.

Ooh! Lots of pretty blues - checks and stripes, snowflakes, stars and spider webs! What a delightful Mad City Mama block. Don't be so hard on yourself. Both blocks are sure scrap busters.

I like both blocks but am amazed at all of the teeny tiny pieces in that first one! :)

I hadn't decided if I would make the Western Woman quilt. I assume it is put together as a sampler quilt - I made several of that type some years back and got kind of tired of them.

Great blocks. Love how the Mad City Mamma block came out. So many pretty blue scraps you have to play with.

Beautiful scrappy blue blocks. Cute little fish swimming in the Mad City Mama block. That one is on my bucket list.

Nice blocks. I haven't decided if I'm going to do the Westering Women blocks or not. It would be cool to see each block in a different color.

your blue blocks are great! I'm with you on the yellow wonkiness, though. it would probably look better if the yellow points matched up.

I am in complete awe! Fantastic!

Great scrappy blocks. The only problem with those that use up the small scraps is that it takes a lot to make a dent in the pile.

Your Mad City Mama block is unique. Don't think I've seen it done before in mainly one color. I Like It. You have a way with scraps, Kathy, and the results are always pretty as can be.

Mad City Momma is great - but so many pieces but Bonnie seems to have a lot of her patterns made up of many pieces.

Great use of your Blues Kathy - that's a lot of scrap busting in the first block alone! I'm hoping to do the Western Women's quilt too, but haven't made a start....!

Love that Westering Women block, I really want to follow along with that one too!

Mad City Mama is very impressive. But I also wonder about the wonky star, because it is the focus of such an ordered block. Hope to see more. Westering Woman should be an exciting series. Have fun with it.

Mad City Mama is stunning! I'm looking forward to seeing what you do next.
I'm thinking about Westering Women, but haven't made up my mind yet. Maybe I'll make one with 1/2 size blocks...
