The focus block for Barb's block swap this year is the sawtooth star. It is one of my all time favourite quilt blocks so that was a happy choice for me!
Here are some of the pieces cut out and ready to sew. I did not have any luck making the flying geese blocks using the "no waste" method. All of them were wasted because turned out inconsistent and never the same/right size. I gave up on that and went old school method... perfect every time!
Here are half of them on the design wall. The colour is way off... it is actually bright pink, not red.
The next step is to pop them into the mail box and send them on their 550 mile journey to another country to meet up with hundreds of other sawtooth star blocks! It will be an exciting quilt block party where they will mix and mingle with new friends... a very exciting journey awaits them!
Sure wish I was going with them!

They look good and am sure will be appreciated and mix well with all the other blocks. Nice job!
If you don’t mind me asking, what do you consider the “old school” flying geese method? Would it be two squares placed together, a drawn line on the diagonal, then stitch a quarter inch on each side of drawn line?
I use the no-waste method, but I cut the pieces just a bit larger, then cut them down using a square up ruler with a 45-degree angle mark. I have a way of lining it up so they come out perfect every time.
I have trouble with flying geese no matter which method I use. So do you get a mixture of everyone's sawtooth blocks back? Was there any color restriction or is it anything goes?

Sounds like a fun swap. Bet you can't wait to get lots of different stars sent back to you!
Great swap. Hope you don't have to wait too long to get yours!! I like the bright pink too!
The no-waste flying geese method has never worked for me and I don't understand why so many quiltmakers think it's fabulous! LOL

If only the blocks could talk and tell us of their travels. That's a pretty good distance. I can tell in one picture it's pink vs red, but sometimes computers mess with our colors. Will be fun to see things done.

I am so happy to hear you say (or write) than the "no-waste method" of making geese doesn't work for you too. I thought I was the stupid one for not making it right because so many, so many patterns call for that method that I can never get right. I feel so much better. Thank you Kathy for being honest. Whether it's red or hot pink, your blocks are fun. Love the scissors fabric. Congrats on getting them all done quickly. ;^)
I'm so sad I missed this sign up!
That's a lot of stars!
Beautiful stars! I have tried many ways to sundown to make FG and the only one that works perfectly for me is Quilt in a Day FG rulers! Perfection! Hugs
They Look great! Thanks for swapping again!
