The colour of the month at the Rainbow Scrap Challenge is aqua/teal/any colour between blue and green on the colour wheel. I haven't played with these scraps much this month, but I did corral all the smallest scraps to start a Mad City Mama block. This is a pattern from Bonnie Hunter's book Adventures With Leaders and Enders. Each block has a centre block (bottom left), 4 strip blocks and 4 square blocks. I thought I had cut millions of squares, but apparently I only cut about 40, so I still have 100+ more to cut! This is what I achieved so far this month, and now I am completely distracted with Amanda Jean Nyberg's new book called "No Scrap Left Behind".
I'm telling you, this book is fabulous if you like to collect little bits and pieces of scraps that other "normal" quilters toss in the garbage. I have no affiliation to Amanda or her publisher, so I am just sharing my own opinion as a fan. It's so reassuring to know that there are other crazy people like me out there in the world. Amanda is my twin scrap sister! I am reading every word on every page. This book is so yummy, it even smells good! Most people who read everything on computers, tablets, and phones probably don't remember how good a new book smells... or maybe this is just another quirky thing about me?!?
Hop over to the Rainbow Scrap Challenge link up to see what other quirky scrap crazed quilters are making this week.

Beautiful colours there - but I don't envy you the cutting of the rest of the squares needed! The book looks fab - one to consider as I've resolved to try and tackle my scraps again over the next year or so - including the lovely blues that you sent me!
Your Aqua teal blocks look so pretty
I love your aqua colors and I have not seen Amanda's new book, I read her blog and love how she uses up the tiny scraps
pretty aqua blocks. that is one color I really don't have. Love the "keep calm" center
I'm "not normal" either and have scraps coming out of my ears!! I can't wait to get that book, too. Amanda Jean spoke at my quilt guild last year and I am such a big fan of hers! Have you ever thought about getting an AccuQuilt? I bought the baby to cut my scraps into 2" squares.
ps
Love the aqua!! Xoxo
What great blocks (or parts of blocks, LOL). I've got that book and will have to look up your project. Your scrap colors are so yummy!!!
Those colors really move me! great combo!
Love the Aquas! The book does sound good. I just got a couple NEW ones. I agree, nothing better than cracking open a new BOOK! Hey, Yours is still Quilty and Scrappy, ENJOY!
Aqua is not a color I have much of but is so pretty! I agree Amanda is your scrap sister. And the new book smell is one of my favorites:)
I agree with you. I really do like my electronic media but it isn't the same as feeling a page and turning it and flipping back and forth!
Your Mad City Mama blocks are such a lot of fun!
And I'm another tiny scrap quilter. (I've fished my SIL's scraps out of her trash before. She's thrown away scraps that are bigger than whole *blocks* that I make!)
Okay, you've convinced me. Since I, too, have a ton of scraps that don't fall into the usual scrap sizes (mine are usually smaller) I'm going to order that book. Love your aqua blocks.
Oh, I love the smell of new books. I like to read on my tablet when I am stuck somewhere and can't stand to not have something to do. But give me a real book any day!
I like the sound of that book.
The teal/aqua/blue-green colors are so soothing to me.
Thanks for blogging about the book No Scrap Left Behind. I used Search Ohio through my local library and I can get it! Whohoo! Have a great weekend!
I like to use up every itty bit too! When it's smaller than itty bit it goes into my garden as mulch!
I could be some relative of yours living across the pond. Love scraps and LOVE the smell of new books!
I would love to read that book, too! The projects she does just fascinate me! Speaking of lots of scraps, I like your Mad City Mama blocks, too. The aqua one will be really pretty!
Love these teal-blue-green fabrics! I am another gal that prefers the printed books over the digital ones... LOVE the aroma of fresh ink! :-)
Kathy, I just bought this book too, and I love it! I can't wait to dig into my scraps and make something wonderful.
your aqua blocks look good, must look out for Amanda`s book, mind you I have about 6 already on scraps!
I agree totally: nothing beats a nice new book. I love where you are going with the aqua blocks.
How funny a twin scrap sister.... oh you may find you have a triplet - ha ha
LOVE your fabrics for your teal project
I totally understand your love of scraps AND agree with you on books. There's nothing like opening a new one for the first time! I tried reading on a tablet but it's just not the same...I have a pile of quilt books, magazines and cookbooks next to my bed. 😄 I've read that this new scrap quilt book is a good one. I love her style.
Welcome back to your Mad City Mama project and congrats on your new book! My copy arrived last week and I had Amanda sign it when I ran into her at Quilt Con. YES!! I'm SEW glad that I brought it will me.
Thank you for sharing this book! It is now on my wish list! Love your teal blocks!
Very pretty scraps. Looks like you got a good start on that scrappy project.
