Slow Sunday Stitching

Welcome to the weekly celebration of all hand stitched crafts! We hope you will join us in setting aside a few moments each Sunday for some relaxing stitching on your favourite project. Pick up a needle and thread, breathe deeply, and enjoy a little vacation from the responsibilities of your life.

Last week I announced the first ever Slow Sunday Stitching retreat and we have enough people to go ahead with this wonderful event. If you have indicated an interest in attending, watch your email for all the details about the day. I will take lots of photos to share with all the folks who wish they could be there but live too far away. And if I win the lottery one day, I will fly in all you slow stitchers who would like to come but live a plane ride away!!

My friend Marg is recovering from surgery and while we were visiting she was working on an old embroidered pillowcase which she rediscovered while recently cleaning in her sewing room. Isn't it fun when we unearth old treasures that we forgot we had?!? LOL The colours are so pretty and she is motivated to finish the project.

I am still slowly working away on hand quilting my little Friendship Album quilt from the Elm Street Quilts Hand Piecing Quiltalong. This project has been travelling around in my trunk of my car for the entire summer, and on occasion I take it out of the trunk and actually put some stitches in it!

What are you hand stitching today? Link up your blog post or instagram below. Happy Slow Stitching Sunday everyone!

Your Friendship Album quilt is so pretty. I hope you get quite a few stitches stitched on it today. The slow stitching retreat does sound like the best fun.

Glad to see your Friendship Album quilt gets to see the sun. I have numerous projects that get stashed away for quite a while as well. Speedy recovery wishes to your friend. Her pink pillowcase is very pretty. Love the stitches!

I am headed to the last day of our quilt show. I am not suppose to work till it is time to take everything down so I might get to do some hexies while I wait at the show.

Poor Friendship Album stuck in a trunk out and about. Hope you feed her some stitches today.

I love that pink pillowcase with butterflies. My head would look good on it.

I'm with Sarah too...hope you win the lottery!

Your Friendship Album Quilt is lovely, and so is Marg's stitchery. I need to hand-quilt that quilt too, but my handwork list is always huge!

Well here's to you winning the lottery Kathy cause I for one would love to join the retreat (and I'm not that far away..Ottawa). :) Meanwhile I will look forward to photos.
I love what Marg is doing...in the old days I used to work pillowcases as gifts for weddings and anniversaries. Hand work is a comfort for so many situations.

I have been following your Slow Sunday Stitching since I stumbled upon it a few months ago. I love this so! It reminds me of winter Sundays when I was a kid. My mom and I would embroider or sew by the fire while winter carried on outdoors.

One year for Christmas my grandmother made my cousins and me beautiful sewing boxes made from cigar boxes and covered in pink with our monograms in silver glitter. Inside was a beginning embroidery set. I was 5 years old. I was very glad to finally be "old enough" to stitch.

I don't often treat myself to the luxury of stitching for an hour or two, but you have inspired me to do so.

This week I finished 2 projects that had been pigeon-holed for a few years. Today I worked on a quilt, and tonight I will continue to embroider another UFO in hopes of finishing it next.

Thanks for inspiring me. I hope you have a great week!
