We are in the middle of summer here, and it has been a comfortably warm summer, with a few really hot days, but also enough rain to keep the grass completely green which is very unusual.
Projects from my takealong bag set out on the picnic table |
First I finished up the chicken embroidery. It is a Gail Pan design and had the word 'eggs' under the chicken. But I decided that since only a couple of the blocks have words, I would not stitch any words since it drew too much attention to those blocks with words. Instead of the word 'eggs', I stitched three eggs!
So cute.
Then I worked on the scrappy triangle quilt that I pieced in the spring.
This project just needed the edge of the triangles appliquéd to a muslin strip. I tried the Aurifil 80 weight thread and it makes a lovely job on the appliqué. However, you really need a needle threader to deal with this very fine thread as needles are impossible to thread otherwise. I love the Clover desk needle threader... it's quick and easy, and works every time!
Then I did some hand quilting on my Friendship Album quilt. It's just getting some stitch in the ditch quilting and 2 of the 9 blocks are finished now.

You had some fun projects along, love the eggs! Happy Stitching!
Certainly there was a choice on stitching projects while away. I tend to do the same, when I'm away from home, yet, that doesn't mean much progress is made. Lol. The popular Aurifil 80 is also hard for me to thread. I use the Clover needle threader, yet still get frustrated. Clever idea on stitching eggs instead of letters. So cute!
I like your chicken with her eggs. Your other projects are really pretty also. Thanks for the link to the needle threader.
Still not able to hand stitch with the "thumb" problem--so will enjoy visiting other hand stitchers, thanks hugs, Julierose
Oh, I think your solution of the three eggs is perfect! You got a lot of relaxing stitching done!
you just never know what you will want to work on! I agree totally. When we travel I tend to bring more to work on then I need mainly because I do not know what I will want to work on! sometimes a project or two doesn't get touched. I have the clover threader that you show and have trouble with it for thread #28 and small needles - it just doesn't want to thread those but it will work those small needles if I use a lighter thread - I wish they it to work all threads and needles!
Great idea to do the eggs instead of words.
Sounds like fun to have several choices for hand stitching on! I've never gotten one of those needle threaders, but it looks very handy. Does it also work for the thicker threads like perle cotton?
Wonderful projects you have in the works, love the chicken stitchery.
It's nice to have a variety of projects on a camping trip. LOVE that embroidered chicken and the eggs! Ahh. Relaxing stitching. Well done.
You have a lot of fun things going. Your little chicken is cute!
I'm with you on that one, you just never know what you will want to work on! But it sounds like you've been busy.
Love that cute little chicken!
Oops forgot to comment! I like all of your projects, and agree the eggs can speak for themselves! LOL
It looks like a lovely way to spend your time. I like all of your projects. I am glad the weather is cooperating on your camping trip!
I do the same thing and take along way more projects than I'll ever work on while on vacation! Funny story....I was hand piecing on the beach last week and put the plastic bucket on my leg and got sunburned. The bucket is not imprinted on my leg!! Even the handle is there! But, I did get some hand piecing done :-). Love your chicken!
I always have a take along project more or less ready to go. Feel lost without it actually. Love all your projects as usual...very cute chicken and eggs.
