| Marvellous Mini quilt top |
Last June Temecula Quilts hosted a Marvellous Mini Monday sewalong making blocks with 1" strips. The sewalong finished in August and it took me a whole year to figure out what to do with my blocks.

My version is quirky indeed! On the design wall today is the layout I finally decided on.

I had a couple of challenges:
1) my first 2 blocks (on the left) were the wrong size, so I remade those and paid more attention to reading the instructions after that! LOL
2) my five 25 patch blocks made from 1" squares turned out to be too small due to an inconsistent seam allowance. Even though I am careful and tried hard, there is no room for variance in blocks this small.
3) I didn't like the four blocks (on the right) with plain squares in the middle instead of a piece block.
So all of these blocks were voted off the project.
I made one more block with a 9 patch centre to add to the collection, which gave me 15 blocks to work with. The blocks were sewed in 3 columns of 5 blocks with no horizontal sashing. The sashing fabric is a sweet print by Jo Morton from her Jamestown collection and it's called "brown stripe with Colonial ladies". It was quite a challenge to get the vertical lines to meet across the top and bottom borders. Can you see where I sewed tiny tucks to make everything line up properly?
I'm happy with how it all turned out. I'm ready to baste and quilt this project and now have to figure out what to do with the 11 extra blocks that got voted off the project!

Put the extra blocks on the back or make another sampler type quilt. They look great!
I think you should finish those extra little blocks and make mini quilts for your next show! No time like right now to start!! haha Then I could win them!!
I'm reading the book no scraps left behind and I like the way Amanda jean puts the back of her quilts together with a row of pattern (blocks in your case) along the lower half of the quilt. That would use up a few more blocks!
I also have the 4 25 patch blocks and 4 blocks with plain centers left from that sew along. I will be interested to see what you do with yours.
I just bought that book and I'm excited to start one of the projects. I love the little blocks that got voted out of the project. Or as my mind read it, voted off the island! Seeds for a new project??? Love how your little quilt turned out.

I made that quilt too. Mine ended up a kitty quilt. Yours is looking good. I like the changes you made.
Quirky and Whimsical is my preference too. Normal is boring :-p

I sewed along with the Monday Mini project, too! That was some tiny piecing! Your version looks great, and congratulations on finishing it up.
What I have found with tthings like your 25 patch blocks is that the cutting is as important as the scant 1/4 inch seam. Placing the 1" line of your ruler on top of the left cut edge will make a difference. If the line is to the left of the edge even a tiny bit, you lose a thread or two of width. Thinner thread helps with tiny blocks as does pressing the seams open which I hate to do.
