Almost a year ago I wrote about the raw edge applique idea I had for using up the scraps from my IOP (Indian Orange Peel) quilt - you can read about post here. On my design wall today is the first 6 blocks.
This is not the first time that the original quilt turns into a UFO, while I became fascinated with making the scraps into a finished project first!
I am having great fun playing in the scrap bin and think there might be enough bits left to make 6 more blocks.
This quilt has decided to call itself "Shattered".

Oh yah, I almost forgot to mention that the winner of my 1,000th blogpost draw is commenter #44 (as picked by my daughter) which is another quilting blogger named Cathy!
You still have time to get in on the handwork draw....just post a link to your hand stitching blogpost before tomorrow!

This is just fun!! I also have to finish up the scraps - it really does lead to more UFOs. Keep having fun - that's what it's all about!
What a neat idea!
really cool - really fun project! I can see how black could really work into this as you go - can't wait to see how it turns out.
Such a fun quilt idea! I can see why you got carried away with the scraps. Hope you get back to the original though, it is a great quilt.
Very pretty. I am fascinated with the idea of raw edge applique but just can't bring myself to do it because I am such a whiner with regular applique.... Your results are beautiful.
I really like your scrap idea, I may have to "borrow" it. I do have lots of scraps......I guess we all do. :-)
Your IOP quilt is an incredibly amazing piece, but I'm sure I would have more fun doing "shattered" (Love that name!). Very cool effect. With a black background it would look like stained glass--and you could call it "stained". : )
OH, how very fun!! I just love this idea...yummy!!!I have the perfect scraps all sorted and ready for this project...hmmmm...
Oh, wow! That is going to be amazing!
Don't you just love making those scrappy blocks? I made one in a similar fashion...each block in a different colorway...so much fun!
Yours is so bright and happy! I do like raw edge applique ~
:-}pokey
Great colours. I have not tried one of those out yet. Maybe some day. So pleased I won you prize. I will have to finish something to try out the new binding clips. I will let you know when is arrives.
I love the blocks for shattered, so bright and cheery. Beautiful.
What a wonderful idea to use of small pieces of scraps and the raw edge part is even better. You have given me ideas...LOL
Take care.
Great way to use your scraps. What a good idea.
very modern looking.
congrats to Cathy.
I have made some postcards from my IOP scraps but should really just work on the quilt....
I like your blocks!
Lovely! It has that illuminated quality like stained glass.
I love this look!
Looks like fun blocks and I love the bright fabrics in in them!
Oh NEAT! I remember those blocks, but the picture reminder is so fun to look at.
What a great idea -- and what a totally different effect than the IOP blocks!
These blocks look great!
So do you sew each piece down by machine with reg. stitch? It looks fabulous so far. Can't wait to see it with more blocks.
Very pretty...love the name as well.
Love these blocks!
Love it! My first thought was that it looks like stained glass but after a moment I realized that it really reminds of a mosaic - you know - the kind they make from broken pieces of tile. Oh - so pretty.
Kathy, love the shattered quilt blocks idea of using up large left over pieces and the colors are so pretty.
