Mystery Quilt Top - Princess Charlotte

I finished putting the borders on the Super Bowl mystery quilt. I changed the layout slightly because I didn't have enough yellow or aqua left for the first border. I decided to complete the diamond shape in the first border and add a grey border.

You can see more variations of the Super Bowl mystery quilt here.

I used 2 fabrics in the grey border, and used the old HST trick to make it look like I mitered the corners, which I would never actually do because it makes me swear too much!

The finished size of the quilt top is 50" x 62" which is the perfect size for a donation quilt. But my daughter's best friend is having her second baby this year, so maybe I will finish it up for her.

We'll see what the quilt tells me once it's quilted! Linking up to Small Quilts

Wow Kathy this has worked beautifully. I love everything about it. The colours are soft and the design is perfect. Clever corners too.

Looks great, like your idea of completing the squares in the border.

I’m so glad you did the HST corners...it would not be good to swear at a baby quilt! LOL!

Beautiful quilt Kathy!

Kathy, that is a great tip for the mitred corners. Using a HST triangle that way is new to me. Thanks.

I really love this quilt, it came out awesome! Thanks for sharing that wonderful HST tip for the corners, never had heard of that before, can't wait to try it!

If you were closer, I'd teach you how to make mitered corners. It's really not that hard, if you have a large space to work with (I use my dining room table to make sure everything lays flat). I used to teach it to my guilds. It's even easier if you have multiple borders (stitch them all at once).

Kathy your Princess Charlotte quilt is so sweet. I love your modification of the pattern and the grey border.

I love your border trick--will have to remember that clever fool the eye piecing.
The little quilt is sweet, congrats on finishing it.

That is a neat trick for mitered corners. If we can ever get together again, I will show you how I do mitered corners. It really isn't that hard once you get onto it!!

Turned out well. Clever finish on the border.
I took a class once on borders and one of the sessions was on mitering corners. Silly me, I'd brought a stripe for my border. The miter matched up perfectly, stripe and all. I figured, "Why press my luck?", and I have never tried it since. I too, use the HSTs instead. :)

A very fun finish! I'll have to remember that trick using a HST for the corners if you want it to look mitered.
