Slow Sunday Stitching

Welcome to the weekly hand stitching party!  Take a few moments to set aside your machines, your devices and screens, and just take a deep breath... ahhh... so much better.
Now pick up your needles and fibres, and put a few stitches into your project. You will feel better in no time!
Today I am slowly working on my hand pieced quiltalong project. This task seems to require a lot of coffee and treats!

There are a few holes that have appeared in places where I didn't connect the units properly. My hand stitching friends said not to worry, that "the quilting will take care of the gaps".  So I decided to hope they are right and just accept the holes.
Holes happen!

I didn't have much of the background fabric left, and the rest of the fabrics were from a charm pack, and I had nothing that suited this project for sashing. Hence, there will be no sashing. It might be a bit of a busy mishmash, but that's just the way it goes sometimes!

What are you hand stitching today?
Are you have any challenges... like holes appearing in your project, or not having the right materials for the next step?  Link up your blog post below and share your miseries and successes with your slow stitching friends!

I shared my fix for a hole of a quilt in progress a few weeks back in my post I shared here :) Good luck to you deciding whether to fix or quilt over your little openings... Kathi

I had some little openings like that, too, and the hand quilting does seem to have fixed it. I also had a few places where a stitch showed through (usually where a lot of seams came together and I didn't sew through the seam allowance quite right) and I can still see some of those in my finished piece. I'm chalking it up to being a learning experience! Your blocks are beautiful, Kathy! I love your fabric choices for them!

I have always had little holes like that in my hand piecing it really isn't noticeable once the quilt is quilted - you can go back in and add a stitch if you wish but it really will not be noticed in the end.

My hand-pieced blocks have some gaps too. Your blocks are beautiful Kathy.

I haven't even tried hand piecing blocks yet but one thing I like about hand quilting is that you can see little things like holes that need to be fixed up close and personal and can get those fixed as you hand quilt. If I FMQ the little things that need to get fixed don't and they get quilted in.

I do like the idea of your coffee and treats to keep you going! Your project is lovely and I think the odd 'hole' is perfectly acceptable! Enjoy your day.

Love how your RSC blocks are looking, Kathy and thanks for mentioning that not everything is absolutely perfect but is fine, nonetheless. Gives me hope!

Holes happen. I try to fix them before I get to the longarm quilting stage. I often hold quilts up to the light (especially customer quilts) before quilting. They sometimes get bigger when I stretch the quilt slightly to get it taught on the frame.

I've got holes in some similar blocks. For me it's either put up with the small holes or pull the thread so tight it puckers. I'd rather have the holes. Pretty blocks. Maybe you could ask someone if they have some of that fabric for sashing. What line is it?

I love the colors on your hand pieced quilt. By the time I got to hand quilting my little quilt, I noticed that I had little openings and threads appearing at seam junctions. I really should stick with some hand stitching, now that the QAL is over!
