Scrap Dance Minuet Mystery

Are you sewing along with Carole's new mystery quilt project called Scrap Dance Minuet
The second step was just posted so it's early in the mystery and you can easily join in. The steps are posted monthly, so there is no rush/stress. I also like that many sizes of the project can be made depending on your scraps and your preferred quilt size.

I'm making the throw size version and it's going to be a total stash buster using old floral fabrics that I dislike and would otherwise never use. I did a deep dive into the stash and pulled out all the florals I could find.

Look at these things! They are old and many are ugly.
All the fabrics across the top of the photo were voted off the island/this project as well as some of the charm squares in the pile on the bottom left of the photo.
Although most of these fabrics are really not appealing to me, en mass they do seem to have a certain charm about them. I'm hoping that Carole will be able to transform these ugly duckings into a swan!

Step #2 is 4 patch blocks. They were quick and very relaxing to sew. Easy Peasy.

Step #3 will be posted the second Friday of April. It feels great to be "caught up and ready", and I feel quite virtuous using up this old stash!

Those florals have not been in style for a long time so it must have been a very deep dive! This mystery quilt is a good way to use them up! Cut up and sewn into 4 patches, they don’t look so bad!

Thanks, Kathy!! I think you'll be happy with those 'voted off the island' florals when they are all cut up. They look better already with the four patches!

"Voted off the island" Ha ha! Florals are not my thing, either, so I can see why you'd like them to move along out of your stash. But lots of folks love them, so I'm sure they'll find a happy home in a pretty quilt. Perhaps a charitable donation will be in order at the end? Hands2Help is just starting for 2019...

In defense of florals here....I only see one I would call ugly, but then I am that crazy person that likes to work with florals. I take no offense but think your parts for the mystery are great. This mix will be really good.

I think that you will find that your 'old and ugly' prints will make you a beautiful throw. Great way to use those fabrics that you no longer gravitate towards.

Oh, boy, I recognize a few of those florals from my stash, but like Debbie, I love florals. I just have too many. I've been away for 8 weeks, so I haven't decided whether to plunge into this QAL or not. There are so many squirrels out there and then there's all the UFOs. But I am tempted and it would give me the opportunity to use up some old white on white fabrics that I don't use any more.

Oh, I had a great many of those florals in my stash once upon a time. I pretty well used them up when I made Bonnie Hunter's Floribunda pattern a few years back. And I love my finished top (it is still not quilted), even though I didn't love the fabrics.

I too have a stash of old florals. They were never my thing. Your 4 patches look rather pretty.

Oh the Florals, I still have a cupboard full. They need to go somewhere. Quilt Backings maybe?? Always good to use the Stash. We learned at our Guild MTG last night to find JOY even if it means giving it to someone else. The presenter gave a few treasures away. LOL

I too have a few of those florals, even way over here in NZ! And actually, they look ok once they are into four patches! But then, I love florals! It'll make a wonderful 'ode-to-the-past' kinda quilt!

Yeah for using up the old and ugly from the stash. There are so many fun mysteries going on, they are like Lays potato chips, it's hard to stop at one!
