Trying to keep up

Brace yourself, this is a complaining post. Another busy week has passed, with more tasks to do than time available in which to complete them.
My kids would say "first world problems Mom".
True. I shouldn't complain.
Don't you love this Calvin and Hobbes cartoon?!

For example, it's already the end of blueberry picking season, and I wanted to get out to the field one more time. It's a little more challenging to find good berries this late in the season, but I did find enough to top up the freezer with enough blueberries to last through another winter.

More on the to-do list...
get caught up with email.
Am I the only one who can't keep up with email?  This is my computer screen this morning. See that? 1,751 messages, of which 559 are unread. I'll never get through all of these. But I do like to reply to those who take the time to leave a blog comment. And I also do not like to lose important work related messages! Do you have any suggestions for email management?

And this stack of books that I wanted to read before the summer is over?

Not going to happen!
I need demand more euphoric hours in the day.

With emails, you've just gotta stay on top of them daily :) maybe revard yourself if you look once a day/twice a day with some sewing or fabric gazing :)

Filter the comments into a different folder to go through when you have time. There should be a way to set it up so that it is done automatically. That way they won't clutter up your inbox and you won't lose important emails.

I use separate emails, so if I just want to deal with blog emails, I open that account only. I love those blueberries ... seeing all them has made me hungry for a blueberry scone. ;-)

I can safely say I have never had that many emails--yikes! Yes, if only there were more hours in the day--imagine what we could accomplish!

I have to keep up with e-mails. I check them when I'm drinking my morning coffee, while I eat lunch and sometime in the evening. I deal with them right away, otherwise I find that they get lost in the shuffle - and I don't want to let that happen. I'm all about organization - lol!

I think you need to quit working at your day job and get all those other things done so you have time for quilting, reading, making jam!!!
I hear ya on the too busy and too many jobs to get done. I am looking forward to the weekend when I can sit and put my feet up!!

Yum , I'm jealous of your blueberry haul! No blueberry picking in this neck of the woods :( As far a email goes, I don't get nearly as much as you, but i do have separate emails for blog/quilting and other things, so there is less sifting to separate my important quilting email from other important stuff.

I hate all the emails, and have to try to keep up daily or I get overwhelmed. On nights when I can't sleep, I go through and delete as many as I can. I do try to respond to all blog comments, because making the connection is what I like most about blogging. All our plans are just too ambitious! I'm trying to read more, but have been hung up on one huge book for over a month now. Can't wait to finish it and get back to the library. Don't get discouraged, just do what you can in a day, and let it go!!

I did a major purge of my Emails recently. Find all the Unread ones and just check them off and DELETE. There's a reason you didn't read them when they came. I have a few books on my list for my Winter reading. You know--- when it's too cold to Sew? HA, That never happens.

I have a couple of e-mail accounts - one for the blog and quilting related things. One for personal/work. Keeps things separate and then I put emails in folders if I need to be able to get back to them. I try to delete all the spam and junk mail once daily too. Good luck

I have my email account linked to my phone so I can use a spare 5 mins going through them on there rather than putting the computer on. It's amazing how many emails you can answer whilst waiting for the potatoes to boil

have you thought about a different email address for bloggers or maybe your work. Like you I reply to blog comments but I do not get as many as you!
It is finding time to do housework I have trouble with the stitching usually wins and I enjoy a book in the bath! whilst having a soak

I imagine that you get many emails because your blog is so popular. I hope commenters would understand that you cannot answer every one.
I have often wondered that with more hours in the day, if I would just add more things

I organize with folder what I want to keep, in case i need to reference it later. The rest, once read and answered, go in the trash. There is just too many to keep them all. The idea of filtering to different folders doesn't work well for me, I have a very 'out of sight, out of mind' focus with email. Inbox is for new, everything else is storage.

If you use Outlook then learn about Rules and Quicksteps. If you want to answer every email these can help you. Rules could send all replies to "Slow Sunday Stitching" to a folder and then you could have a Quickstep set up that created the base of a reply just with one click. Add to it, edit it, or send it as it is... change the base each week and it's still personal - really easy and really flexible. See if your local Chamber of Commerce runs sessions on Managing your Email. Lots of it can be covered quite quickly.

I have some messages that go into folders. That way, I can read them when I get a chance, and they don't clog up my regular inbox (I do this with the Treadle On messages). I can sit down and read all the TO messages at one time, and follow the messages easier. Also, many of my groups I'm in , I get the Daily Digest instead of individual messages. Much easier to keep up with them that way. Every morning I have another 50-75 messages in my inbox, the digests help me to not have 10x that many to go thru. Oh yea, I'm behind on my blog reading instead of my email. Life is normal.
