Paper Piecing Challenge

Sometimes great ideas are way more of a challenge than any "sane" person should take on! I had a brainwave to add a paper pieced sting ray block into my newest Scrap squad project.

I paid for the pattern, had my son download and print it for me (ugh... I can't figure out how to get my old computer to talk to the new printer) and tried to figure out how to organize myself to sew.
I got all the fabric scraps from the stash and got ready to sew.

Wowzer - this is the hardest paper pieced pattern I have ever tackled! Check out how some of the pieces are smaller than the eraser of my pencil! And there are almost 80 pieces in this 9" block!
What was I thinking?
Sometimes I am my own worst enemy!

Wow this does look hard. No quarter inch seam allowance there then! Good luck.

Yikes! I love paper piecing, but I'm not sure that I would be up for such tiny pieces! :-o

Hopefully it will all be worth it! Paper piecing does make really tiny bits easier to handle. I'd be more worried about all the odd angles of the subunits, that is the part that always gives me fits. Good luck! It will be stunning when you get it done.

There are some tiny pieces in there. I'm looking forward to seeing your first block, I'm having a hard time seeing how all those pieces go together.

LOL - good luck some of those sure are tiny - I don't really care for paper piecing but I do admire those of you that do and get all those little papers out afterwards.

You can do it! Just start with one section at a time and you'll get it done

I don't like the tiny pieces sometimes. I made an atom for my FIL, and it had 138 pieces in it. Oh well, it will look nice when it's done.

I love paper piecing but that is pretty intense! I can't wait to see your finished quilt!

Having just finished a Dear Jane, I have learned to keep the small pieces. I smallest one I will save is 1 inch square. thanks beththomsathotmail.com

I confess that I sometimes look at paper pieced blocks like that one and think that I'd probably choose to appliqué the shapes instead :-) Good luck to you!
