I always like to have a machine ready to go with mindless sewing. The project needs to be one that requires zero cognitive ability. It's the kind of sewing that you can do at the end of a long day when you are exhausted but want to sew. You can just sit down at the machine and start putting pieces under the needle - no cutting to do, no matching required, no decisions to make. Just sewing.
My mindless project is sewing these log cabin blocks on my Sweet Baby Jayne. Each block has twenty 1" logs to attach. It is relaxing and easy sewing.
And sometimes boring.
And that can be a good thing sometimes!
I had to buy more of the darker blue fabrics, so that has proven to be somewhat of a treasure hunt.
But fabric was finally found that is "close enough" (thanks to Deanna and Barb) and I could proceed with sewing the 100+ blocks.
I have finished sewing 28 blocks and couldn't wait to put them on the design wall.
Here are some possible design ideas...
What do you think?
Do you have a favorite log cabin layout?

Log cabin quilts are such a favorite of mine. Barn raising is my favorite setting, but I'm going to set my oldest grandson's log cabin in a spiral setting. It'll be interesting to see how it turns out.
Love the yellow and blue which will look stunning in any layout.
The third one looks like multiple sunsets over blue lakes...
Very pretty and it looks very serene. It looks like the perfect project to work on when you are stressed.
Love blue and yellow! Any layout would be beautiful..... I normally love the barn raising layout but that third one on point - LOVE it. Makes me think of the diamonds you see sparkling on the water as the sun hits it in the morning.
Sweet little blocks and sweet little FW! Lovely project! I love log cabins every way and any way. Such a versatile block. Your quilt will be awesome!
Cool project ... Hard to choose just one layout!
My favourite log cabin is one that I spiraled out from the centre. I'd love to see you post a pic of that with your blocks on your design wall!
Kathy, que bonitos los colores...me gusta el penĂșltimo, es representar el mar con un cielo azul, precioso...
Feliz dia!!!!
Love these! I just finished a log cabin for the accuquilt BOB blog hop coming up in 2 weeks, I LOVE it and love what you did! all the settings are fun but I like the barn raising the best :) - that's the one blooming out from the center right?
Love the colors! I like any log cabin pattern, and I just wish I had space for a design wall, so I could play around like this.
I too love to have a mindless project to work on...kind of healing after the hospital day, isn't it? And your project is wonderful! I think my favorite layout is barn raising style.
Seeing your log cabin blocks and reading the comments about spiraling is making me rethink the next quilt that I am starting. I need to go play in EQ.
I never met a log cabin quilt that I didn't like.
Best? I like the first one, but love that third one... whatever the name of it. Good color choices!
Hugs
I think I like this design over here.

It's the first one
Oh like the first one...barn raising? And you definitely can't go wrong with your blue and yellow colours. Glad I had some that would work for ya! So bright and sunny especially on a day like I am having...rainy and dreary.
Yes, perfect! We are going to build a little "shade"deck on the north side of the house, so next summer I will be able to set up my machine out there and enjoy some mindless sewing in cool comfort!
I have to laugh...there is no 'mindless' for me. I make mistakes paying full attention! :)
Mindless and Log Cabin Blocks don't go together at my Sewing machine. They are a curse and a bad word. Yours look so pretty. Have fun making them.
I'm with Mary--I can't sew log cabin blocks mindlessly. Wish I could--maybe then the one in the box in the closet would be done.
This is very pretty--I'm always partial to barn raising and straight furrows settings for log cabin blocks.
These are beautiful Log Cabin blocks! I love the blue and yellow together. I looked online for settings for Log Cabin blocks. I had no idea that there were so many ways to do it! I do like the Barn Raising, but saw two I liked, one was a Log Cabin Star and the other was called Streaks of Lightening.
Wow that second layout sure is different! I can't decide on a favorite. I mindlessly stitched several long chains of 1.5 in squares. I keep adding the string of twosies to the back of a chair in my sewing room I sure hope they don't get tangled!
You're very precise in your mindless sewing! I like barn raising.
I love blue and yellow anything so you had me at hello with these blocks! I think my favorite Log Cabin setting is barn raising. These are going to look great no matter what you do with them!
That is so cool! The third layout makes me think of the ocean with all of them pointing down, I like them all!
I think streak of lightening is my favorite log cabin layout ... At least right now. String blocks are my mindless sewing but log cabins are a favorite of mine too!
Love log cabin quilts. One of my favorite patterns
so many variations but personally I have problems with log cabin, the slightest wonky stitching and it sticks out like a sore thumb and I tend to be a bit wonky!
Those blocks really sparkle. I like these on points but there are so many ways to use log cabins.
That is such a pretty block with the blue and yellow! Versatile too, as it looks great just about any way you like. My favorite is the first one...I think!?
Beautiful blocks. I like the first layout best.
