And it just took me 16 years to get it there! Well, those borders take me a while to figure out...LOL!
This is a mystery quilt from the very first quilt retreat I attended in
It was my first weekend ever being away from my children - here they are wreaking havoc in my room at the inn before they dropped me off
...it was hard to be away and I missed them terribly. But it was good for all of us.
It was an amazing weekend! The quilt pattern was called "Stars Over a Port Elgin Sky".
It has been in the UFO closet for 16 years and is finally on it's way to becoming a finished quilt!
Tomorrow I will write about what I learned at this retreat that has become an obsession.
You can check out more design walls over at Patchwork Times.

No, I cannot imagine a precut kit, and I'm guessing they didn't use a Go Cutter. I'm so glad you finished this quilt, it sounds like you have wonderful memories of the retreat. Star blocks, they just never go out of style, I love it!
OH, a precut kit sounds heavenly...as long as there is a bit of "OOPS Fabric included if you should happen to mess up on something....of course the pre-cut would eliminate a lot of that. I love the picture of the kids in the tub...adorable! Glad your weekend was wonderful and I love the quilt on your new Header!!! Really beautiful. Hugs...
I've always hesitated to start a mystery quilt. I'm afraid I won't like the end result after so much work. Sounds like you had a great time at retreat.
You said 2006....I think you meant 1996. Nonetheless, I'm sure it feels great to have this one to the flimsy stage.
YEA for another great UFO out of the Closet! Retreats are the best time to have fun with fellow Quilters. The Mystery quilt turned out very nice. Have fun quilting it. I'm looking forward to one next year.
Yes, those borders can be a dilly, can't they?!? : )
I've still never gone to a retreat--someday!
What a great quilt and a great story!
It's so fun to read other quilter's stories about UFO's! This is a great quilt, and great story. Thanks for sharing.
It is so lovely!
Cute photo of your long ago littles :)
The star blocks are great--and all precut? Wow, that's a great kit.
You'll have to make the label a drivers' license or something!
I like your new header picture... so pretty! Looking forward to reading more about the retreat and what you learned at it! Obsession? No, really???
nice new header
So pretty, and not at all dated - it surprised me to read the age of this project! Good for you; I need to finish more. It's such a good feeling.
Give yourself a great big pat on the back for finishing an oldie but goodie. It is lovely. Maybe next year I'll go UFO diving again. Love the new header picture too.
How wonderful to finish a top... especially one that's been around for a while.
Good for you! I'm working on old UFOs too and I know how good it feels to cross them off the list. I'm in love with the quilt in your header too.
Love your new header. Isn't it nice to finish an oldie.
Well it certainly is a neat looking quilt. All pre-cut, pretty neat. I have seen them long time ago in a Ben Franklin store.
Your new header is a nice fresh look. Your mystery quilt must be very happy to be out of the closet after 16 years of abandonment. Kudos to you for finishing a top that sat for so long. The colors & pattern look current so you would never guess how long it has been in the making. It must feel good to be able to check this one off your list.
That border would have tripped me up too! ;) Mine might still be in the closet.
What a great quilt and story...look forward to reading what the obsession is.
I like the quilt on your header...so inviting.
Have a great day!

I really LOVE this quilt. What a fantastic scrappy top without being really scrappy. Will try to find the pattern. Thanks for the preview
Pretty quilt and like the choice of threads to quilt it!! I think we all have projects from way back when!! lol. I try to finish one a year but it seams to go to the bottom again. Merry Christmas
