Design Wall Monday - Aurifil BOM

I was a little tardy in finishing the Aurifil BOM blocks for 2016. By the end of the year only the December block remained unsewn. The last block is a paper pieced flower block designed by Amanda Herring.
My 5 fabrics were organized back in December, but it took me a while to get the pattern printed, and to gather the concentration required to sew it.
Because I am used to sewing smaller blocks, the pieces seemed very large to handle. And no matter how I worked with each section, there was a lot of fabric wastage (which I will use in my 150 Canadian Women blocks, so it's not really "wasted" at all, I guess).

This is the pattern with 6 sections having 5 pieces each.
It doesn't look like it should have been that hard.
But it was!
Why did it take me over 4 hours to put it together??

I can't explain it!!

Here is the 12th block for my 2016 Aurifil BOM project. Although the striped fabric doesn't match up perfectly around the centre, it's close enough for me, and I'm very happy with how it turned out, all things considered!
When I'm back in the quilt studio I will get all 12 blocks up on the design wall. I can't wait to see the suggested layout for these blocks and get them sewn together.

You can see many variations of this block pattern over at Pat Sloan's blog here. To see more design wall postings, hop over to Patchwork Times.

I think your block has turned out great.... I'll look forward to seeing them all on the wall.

Love the bright red fabrics. It is tough getting 6 pieces to match in a center. Ask me how I know. ;-)

These red and white sampler blocks have been fun to see each month. This block looks great! I wish I had the time to make this sampler too.

I wouldn't be able to get the center to line up perfectly either - that is always my hard spot.!

The Red and White block looks darn good for matching the stripes in the center. Glad you could get it finished. I'll watch to see all the Blocks. Are you off having FUN and away from your Quilt Zone? Glad you can usee the otherwise 'wasted' fabrics in another quilt.

The stripes match so well, that I don't notice any little imperfections in them. It would be almost impossible for me to get them atched up doing paper piecing.

Wow, trying to match up the stripes that well would have taken me 8 hours--at least!!

This block is wonderful! I wouldn't have even noticed that the middle isn't as perfect as you wanted. It looks great! It was worth the struggle. :)

It would have taken me twice that long, I'm sure! Paper piecing and I are not friends. Love your finished block.

That's a very nice block. I checked Pat's blog, and can't believe how differently the blocks look.

I was thinking how well matched your red stripe fabric was! I think you are being super hard on yourself. It's a really attractive block. I looked at pat blog, they all look so different.

Cool block. The hard part for me would be to line up the stripes. You did a great job on it.

What an eye-catching block Kathy! Great choice of fabrics and sewn beautifully - that stripe sure looks close enough for me too :*)

This is such a striking block, and I'm guessing no one other than you will look critically at those centre stripes.

A very pretty block. It looks very complicated, I can believe more than 4 hours to put that together!
