On New Year's Day Quiltbug offered a free mystery quilt pattern. It's important to start the year off on the right track, so of course I started this new quilt with one of my sewing groups.
We enjoyed some visiting, sewing, and festivities. One of the quilters brought us snacks and her napkins said: "Wise men brought gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Wise women brought wine."
There were a lot of HST's to make in this project and we didn't have enough time to finish our tops that day, but mine is now finished. I made the door hanging version (there is also a tablerunner version) and am eager to quilt this.
I pieced some batting scraps together, and found a hunk of old fabric I don't really like to use for a backing. Now I am pin basting the three layers together using my favorite "Kwik Klip" tool.

A start and a finish! What a great way to start the new year in style.
Nice looking little door hanger in those great KT fabrics. I don't know how I ever basted a quilt with pins before I got my Kwik Klip.
What a gorgeous quilt! I love the fabrics you chose. I'm afraid that I consumed much wine while constructing a quilt with triangles, that quilt wouldn't be fit for the dog to use (if I had a dog). ha!
That is so cute! Love your choice of fabrics. I'm with Kathy - alcohol and sewing do not mix with me =) Something about falling asleep quickly...... =)
A machine quilter friend(not Kathy) told me a glass or two of wine makes you relaxed and machine quilting easier. I have tried it....SHE LIED!!! Okay maybe it wasn't the wine so much as the one behind the sewing machine. Great finish!
Yeah for a finish! I love sewing with friends!
Love your quilt. The colors are right up my alley. An YES! the wise women did bring wine LOL.
I love that your group does Kris' mysteries. You have a lovely little piece for the new year.
What a beautiful piece! I love the cheddar centers! Haha! You could call this little piece, "Wine and Cheese"! LOL! Happy to help . . . I'm here all day. (Unless my eyes or the photo have deceived me and the center blocks are not cheddar. In which case, ignore my entire post after "What a beautiful piece!") ;)
Fun! I really like the border fabric.
You are already very productive this year. I love the door version of this quilt.
Beautiful! I love mysteries, so much fun!
Your door hanging is so beautiful. Love the colours. I wanted to participate too but haven't started yet :( I like the table runner version. Love the napkins. so funny and true. Only women would think of bringing the wine. ;^)
I love, love, love your colours. Wonderful!
Love the top....
What a cute flimsy and a great way to start off the new year :)
