Using the scraps

I have been  playing with  organizing my scraps. For some bizarre reason I am obsessed with becoming more efficient and I want to be able to easily use my scraps.
And how can you pick what you want to use if you can't see what you have?!?
So my friend Barb found me these great containers to sort scraps into.
Okay now scraps...jump in there and sort yourselves into colour groupings!!
Do I have to do everything?!? LOL

Remember this post from August, when I was coincidentally doing exactly the same thing as today!?!?   I was inspired to sew up a scrappy pinwheel block from the Friday Block Party pattern of the week. I think I made that block because I was bored to death with the sorting and pressing scraps job...and I wanted to get to the fun/sewing part, which is way more fun!
And then in September I sorted and cut more 1 1/2" scraps for a prairie point border - click here to see them.
Well, now the 14" mini quilt is finished (minus a hanging sleeve)!
The pinwheels have 71 scraps, and the prairie point borders have 56 scraps, for a grand total of 127 little bits used up from the scrap treasury!

NICE! I need the scrap fairies to come sort my multiple boxes of scraps too! Then I can make a cute scrappy one piece of each fabric quilt. I think mine would be HUGE!

The process of sorting and using scraps is never ending. If you get to make great quilts like that while it is happening though, it can just keep on going forever. Good luck with the organizing.

Now wasn't all that scrap sorting well worth it ? Pretty pretty little quilt and just think you could probably make about another couple of hundred with the rest of your scraps - lol xxx

Love the pinwhell quilt with the prairie point borders. Amazing how many different fabrics you can use in such a small quilt.

Hi Kathy,
Congratulations on using up all those scraps--your pinwheel wall hanging is beautiful.

After sorting and pressing all those scraps, there's no better reward than the fun of making such an adorable little quilt. I love it! Your prairie points look great. That's one of my favorite ways to use up squares quickly.

an AWESOME little quilt. And, aren't you the virtuous quilter to use all of those little bits and pieces. I think I might emulate your double pinwheels when next I do a little quilt... Well done. B.

We have been sorting out scraps together this week I think :) I'm almost done...I have to do just a little at a time or I get burnt out lol!! Feels so good to have them almost done! I did mine only by size not color...it was a tough decision. I really like how they look when they're sorted by color. Someday when I have more room they will be by color and size!!!! Have fun!

Have they jumped in yet? Seems as soon as I get through one pile of scraps...a new pile begins...it's never ending ;o)

I bet you find all sorts of 'treasures' in your scraps. The pinwheel quilt is really cute. Keep sorting!

I sort my scraps too - everyone calls me a bit OCD but I swear once they were sorted I really tend to use them more in my work LOL!!
