Welcome to Slow Sunday Stitching! We meet here every Sunday to celebrate the art of all varieties of hand stitching. If it involves a needle or 2, and thread, and stitches taken with your hands, we want to know about it!
Gail from the Cozy Quilter shared an article with me about the benefits of handwork, and the first line says "Give yourself a health break: Pick up some stitching and become mindful of the benefits of simply slowing down". Click here to read more about the benefits. Thanks Gail!
This week I finished my word (plus one flower!) meditation embroidery. Thank you to Joy for the pattern! And thank you for your feedback last week about mixing Valdani threads with DMC floss. As I look over the stitching here, I really like the Valdani lines more. I'll still use the floss because I have a ton of it, but I have to admit that Valdani really is a treat to stitch with so I think I'll add to my colour choices over time.
The next step for this project is to add the border fabric and get quilting. I plan to hand quilt a crosshatch grid and hope the stitches provide some texture without distraction from the words.
In other hand stitching news, my local yarn store ordered some blue yarn so I could finish a cloth I was knitting and when I went to pick it up, I saw this friendly sign. I loved the kindness of it... "we'll tow your car, but we're awfully sorry and there are no hard feelings". LOL
I hope you will be enjoying some hand stitching time today. Link up your blog or instagram post and share your projects with us.

An interesting article on the benefits of hand stitching. We Sunday slow stitchers should all be very relaxed and calm people. =) I know I am after a bout of meditative hand stitching. How lovely your Meditation embroidery is. The flower is fabulous. It certainly adds a dash of pizazz to the finished piece.
Your word embroidery is so pretty. I like how you plan to quilt it.
Your plus flower embroidery is really pretty, Kathy. Will you make a pannel with it?
Yes, it is right we need to give ourselves a health break and hand stitching is our personal teraphy. Have a great stitching week.
Nice words on your meditation embroidery. I don't know Veldani thread, I will look out for it.
I remember when I switched from Coats & Clark embroidery thread to DMC brand, I thought I was upgrading then! Happy stitching!
there was a time when all I did was hand work - hand piecing, hand quilting - now I machine piece more of my quilts than hand piece but nothing brings as much joy as sitting at the hand quilting frame and working slowly and peacefully by hand in the evening to unwind from the day
I love your finished embroidery… check out rusty crow for great photos of all the Valdani colors although you may have found a local source in Canada… Shawn is in outer banks NC but ships fast and Carrie’s all the colors of Valdani with great photography of the ball colors too ;)
I look forward to seeing it bordered and hand quilting begun next week Kathy!!!
Thanks oh so much for the linky party too!
Kathi
Glad you were able to get more of the yarn for your dish cloth. That sign is too funny! Have a wonderfully relaxing stitching day Kathy.
That's such a lovely design! I've never tried Valdani embroidery floss - sounds like I should. Enjoy your stitching today, Kathy!
I love your word embroidery. Thanks you for sharing the pattern link. I have saved it and hope to be able to make it sometime.
Great article, and congratulations on finishing your meditation stitching! Great that you could find some more yarn! Happy stitching!
I haven't used Valdani threads, don't know that they are available locally.
Love the tow away sign, I would probably have laughed if is said "Don't be a Heel". Insert your groan here...
Beautiful stitching project…perfect inspiration for all of us slow stitchers! Thanks so much for hosting this every week!
That really is a nice sign. Happy Stitching :)
Beautiful stitching and a very polite sign. 😉
Your stitchery turned out just beautifully! Love all the threads you used and your finishing plans sound perfect! xx
