Scrappy Saturday - Mini Arrowhead
One of my favourite ongoing RSC project is the mini arrowhead blocks that finish at 3". I have been working on these since the summer of 2018 and make a few each month as I feel inspired.
It starts with cutting out 4.25" squares, and then cutting the squares into other shapes according to Anita Grossman Solomon's instructions. Here is the stack of cut purple blocks ready to sew throughout the month of August. I keep them in a baggie by the machine and sew a block or two when I have a few moments.
Here are the purple blocks sewn. I very rarely buy purple fabric, so these are all scraps that other quilters have given to me.
Here are all the purple blocks from last year and this month. I still super love this project and feel lots of energy to continue making more blocks. There are over 100 blocks in the collection so far, but they measure only 3", so that makes a wallhanging size and I'd like it to be a bigger quilt.

wow. Thanks for the link
When you are sewing around the 4.24 square, do you leave .75 unstitched and then cut at 3/4" intervals? I'd like to give these cute blocks a try
What beautiful PURPLE scraps your friends have shared!!
Thank you! I like these very much, and such a cool way to make them. I'm going to look for Anita's book! This would be great for charm packs as I like to trim them down anyway. So I hope you answer Michele's question.
3" - lots of work there Kathy! Pretty purples.
Those are pretty in purple, Kathy! How nice to have friends gifting you scraps in purple - I never have a lot of purple either.
I just love those little blocks (when YOU make them). A bigger-than-wallhanging size quilt will be awesome.
So teeny tiny it is hard to picture them that small from the photo's! They are lovely in purple.
It's hard to picture those so small, but I love them in purple! My daughter loves purple so I have a fair amount of it. I'm only doing one RSC project this year; my first, and it's pretty simple, but fun.
Arrowhead blocks are so cool! But 3”! That’s incredible! Lovely fabrics too! You have some great friends!
Glad to hear you love making those 3" blocks. That's the only drawback when making such tiny blocks --- takes SO MANY to finish! But if it's enjoyable, it's a great go-to project or maybe even a leader & ender project!?! They sure look gorgeous together, for sure!
I'd never have guessed that they're only 3" because all the other examples are for big blocks. The minis are just super.
