Summer of Leaders and Enders

Are you sewing along with Kevin's Simply Sensational Summer Scrap Quilt? It's a fun mystery project that only has 2 colour choices which makes it so easy peasy. You could do lights and darks, or use 2 different colours.
My Simply Sensational summer Scrap Quilt is using up old batik scraps. I have tons of them left over from quilt making over the years, and am so happy to have a project to sew them into.

Batiks were sorted into 2 piles... all colours and light neutrals. I did buy some fat quarters of neutral batiks on the shop hop to have enough to make this quilt.

As step #1 began I realized that it is very simple sewing and I couldn't stick with it for very long because I was bored. So I decided this would be my summer leader-ender project to work on in between other sewing. Here are the first 49 of the 4 patch blocks.
Aren't these just fabulous colours? This is going to be such a happy energetic quilt!

Step #2 is working with the neutral fabrics, and I just got started with some of those.

And of course I had already started making Bonnie Hunter's leader-ender challenge blocks called Shoo Fly, Shoo, so now I will have two projects on the go to sew in between other piecing.
Are you sewing along with either of these projects?

I'm sewing the shoo fly blocks but they've moved into an actual project, not leader & enders. I'm so curious about Kevin's sew along but didn't start. That may happen though since I've the bright hopes blocks are sew into 2 crib quilts now. Need to get them quilted sometime this month before I can start anything new! Your dark batiks look lovely just as they are, a checkerboard quilt!

I was working on my SSSSQ today as well too. Yours will be fabulous with all those bright colors. I'm out of my comfort zone and going with pinks and dark greens. We'll see what that brings. I'm sure with Kevin that the mystery pattern will work with all kinds of scraps!

I might start on some Shoo fly blocks after the Fair Quilts are done. We have all year to make them.

I'm a real fan of leader and ender sewing and always try to have something simple ready to go. At the moment I'm making easy little house blocks in between my regular stitching.

I am making Shoo Fly blocks. Right now I am using scraps from my green pile (both the lights and darks). I will have to decide sometime to change colours;)

I have way too many projects going right now to start on Kevin's. I already have a couple of leader enders, too. We'll see later on.

I am not sewing along with anybody on anything, but my mouth is watering at the sight of all those luscious batiks!

Brights and lights? That's going to be such a pretty quilt! I'm working in a few 4 patches here and there with my other stitching, thankfully those 4 patches go fast.

Hi Kathy - I am doing Kevin's and yes it does get boring. But I have 66 completed of the Color 1 and need to get going on them today. I may even quilt on the long arm today! I debated on Shoo Fly and decided to not do that one, but after our mini week vacation I will be hitting the projects hard!

Your quilt be really be a popper! Mine is in earth tone colors!

Hugs

Now that's an interesting interpretation of Kevin's mystery project. I'm not doing either Kevin's or Bonnie's L&E. I'm determined to finish some of the earlier ones in progress. I'm currently sewing the split nine patch L&E together (that's how far behind I am).

You are such an enthusiastic joiner--I admire that! My scraps are constantly threatening to overrun storage so I like having a leader-ender project too. Happy Sewing!

I just started Kevin's sew-along by cutting squares last week. I managed half of the darks, and this week I'm doing half of the lights. I've not been sewing much the last months for different reasons. This project is just the right for me to get started again. Will show you on my blog next week. Have a nice weekend!
