Design Wall Monday

Did you think you'd be seeing some of Kevin's summer mystery pieces on the design wall today?!? Did you see the reveal last Thursday? It's a really great quilt layout that is nothing like I thought it would be, and made from the humble square shape. But surprisingly, it's quite complex and a little overwhelming. So I've packed away all the pieces and put it in a project bag to take when I visit my friend Deanna who lives in the great white north! Hopefully it won't be white and snowy there when I visit, but you just never know :)
Today the design wall has some tree blocks and a star block for my Christmas Stars pattern by Kim Diehl. The trees were such fun to sew, that the unruly stars took me by surprise!  I'm tired of these star blocks and the seam strugglesSome seams have very thick sections with so many layers that will not lay flat. I just have to push on and be done with them so I can get to sewing the layout.

To see more design walls, hop over to Small Quilts.

It isn't fun when you have to struggle with a block. Still, the results are great!

I think it looks good

After seeing your tree blocks, I borrowed the book from one of our group members and pulled out some fabrics, but when I went to start it, I was happy with the fabric pull (looks dull) so I set the whole thing aside. I guess if I'm going to make it for this Christmas, I'd better get it out and see what I can do to brighten it up. I'm only doing one tree, not the stars.

Looking good Kathy and I understand about Kevin's! Nice setting, but it will take time to do it right! I gifted mine! On to something else! Yes the star blocks can be so frustrating. Especially if the fabric is heavily dyed. Hugs

Oh my goodness, thank you for your comment about the finish of Kevin's mystery QAL. I've been putting it off, because I'm a little overwhelmed too (sorry, Kevin!). I'm sure it will be easier than I think, but I read through the instructions late at night and my mind got a little boggled. Haha. We can do this, right! Love those Kim Diehl blocks, especially the trees!

I love your starry trees--so cute! That's the one Kim Diehl book I haven't purchased because I really don't need another Christmas quilt. Now that I've seen your project, I may need it after all!

Sooooo soooooo pretty. Love this Christmas Quilt and am anxious to see it grow. Hope there is no white when you go North. I shudder, even though it's still August, I know it's not far off. Her me groaning, lol

I have made that kind of star and it can be a challenge. But they look so pretty with those fun trees.
I was traveling last week and didn't see Kevin's reveal. I'm going to go check it out.

Love those stars! Yes, the seams can be a pain. But, with those complex blocks I press the seams open on them and that really helps to get the block flat. I learned to do with with the Elizabeth Hartman and Sew Fresh quilts!

Love those Christmas stars!

The mystery quikt of Kevin's looks like it would benefit from a design wall, so I could see the whole quilt before I started piecing units together. It is beautiful-hope you finish it when you are visiting your friend. Judy

I missed Kevin's reveal. I will have to print it out and maybe work on that this weekend. Looking forward to your arrival. No snow in the forecast!!
