Magnolia Mystery Update

Progress is continuing on my Magnolia Mystery. It's slow, but it's certainly progress!

I got out my cute white Featherweight 221K called "Sweet Baby Jayne". It's such a joy to sew on this machine but I worry about wearing her out. However, I also do not want her to spend her whole life in a dark closet with no attention at all. So on special occasions, I treat myself to a sewing session.  Her stitch is lovely and her sound is soft and sweet.

There are 3 different block patterns to sew for this step of the mystery and I made a sample of each block. However I sewed one of the sample blocks incorrectly, so right from the start I was using the seam ripper. The correct blocks have the paper notes pinned on, and the wrong block is under the seam ripper. It has since been dismantled! All the block components needed to sew the required number of blocks are now ready to mass assemble. Progress should be much faster now...fingers crossed!

I really like you fabric choices! I messed up on the first block too, you do have to really pay attention to orientation of each piece.

It is good to run little Jayne every now and then to keep it in good working order. I had to take my workhorse machine in to repair as it locked up from disuse. So now I am planning sew days with friends to help me keep all my machines running.

I love your fabric choices! I spent a lot of time making sure things were going in the right directions in these blocks as well!

I don't think you could possibly wear out your machine. Can't wait to see the finish of this mystery...your colours are very nice too!

LOVE that machine, Kathy. If it possibly could wear out, I think that would be a more noble way for it to go, than to be choked by dust in a closet somewhere. :)

I'll be looking forward to seeing your quilt come together. I've always wanted a black/white/yellow quilt. LOVE that you added gray into the mix!

As soon as I get my regular foot back on my machine, I want to dive into these blocks too. Your colors are lovely.

I don't think it's possible to wear a featherweight out. I've been sewing with a featherweight as my only machine for close to 20 years now. They are little work horses! :)

I love the fabrics you are using in your Magnolia Mystery Quilt. I have not sewn any of my blocks together but look forward to doing so. I love your little featherweight, that is something I hope to find soon, maybe this Christmas.

I don't think you'll wear out the 221. Mine has been going since 1939. Most of my 'electric' sewing is done on it.
