Not a Quilt

I made a "quick" gift yesterday for a bridal shower tonight. Honestly I don't know why I do these things! It would have been so much quicker and cheaper to just buy a gift. But no.... I have to make something and it turned out to be a bigger challenge than I thought it would be.

It's a tea towel... how hard can it be?!?
I got the kit for this project at Kindred Spirits Quilt Company. Making the hexagons went well and attaching them to the quilt was all good.

But then came the ruffling part, which I have never done before.
Not fun.
Not even in the same league as quilting fun!
Oh well... it's done now, and I learned that I don't enjoy making ruffles!
And there it is.
The request for the shower was to bring "a tea towel that describes your personality or has a funny story attached to it". A quilter has to give a quilty kind of towel, so this definitely qualifies and she will know exactly who it's from. Hope it doesn't fall apart in the wash! LOL
And now back to our regularly scheduled quilting projects...

It's really looking nice, even the ruffles. Be proud!

I'm with you on the ruffles. Looks basically easy, but way to fussy for me. The towel is really cute -- a nice reward for all that hard work. Hope it is enjoyed and used for years to come!

How funny! I hate to make ruffles too Kathy. I actually bought the gathering foot for my new Pfaff so I could do it painlessly if I ever needed to make them. The last time I made ruffles was for the shams I made to match my mom's quilt. Ruffles are like beauty queens - They're pretty, but they're a pain!

Ruffles really aren't so bad. Patience is all you need. The tea towel turned out quite pretty.

Really cute, you did a nice job!

You did a lovely job and it surely represents a quilter. I, too, ran into a sewing snag this week. I had to watch a tutorial on how to put a zipper in a pillow cover. Still working on that one.

I have done my share of ruffles in clothing construction over the years. I don't like to make them or wear them, but they sure look cute on a tea towel. : )

Cute towel. I've not tried ruffle, but, I've always thought they sounded hard.

It's lovely Kathy ! These small projects are often time consuming ... But now you can bring something that really represents you and on top you learnt to sew ruffles. Or at least you know now that you don't like to sew them ;-)

I'm sure it will be loved. Well done

Your ruffles look quite professional. But using a ruffler foot makes the job easy peasy.

Handmade is best, that's why we do it! I long ago discovered the secret to great ruffles: sew a basting stitch 1/8th inch above and another 1/8th inch below your desired seam width. Then when you are stitching on the seamline there is no bulk! Pull out the basting thread below your seamline and it will look great.

you have turned this tea towel into something special. Your blog re orphans does not appear to be on your blog, when I clicked it says it was not there

It looks really good despite the angst the ruffle caused!
