My log cabin blocks are on the wall today. The on point layout is my favorite for these blocks and I have been auditioning stash fabrics for the setting triangles. I don't want to buy more fabric, so it's going be one (or all) of these!
yellow floral (left)? or blue floral (right)?
yellow at the top? blue at the bottom?
Do you have any feedback about these options? I hope to get these blocks into a quilt top this week. You can hop over to Patchwork Times to see more design wall postings.
Kathy, Love your log cabin blocks and possible layouts... I love your last option the best... it makes it look very cool like that I think... you may want a more traditional look though with just 1 fabric all around... then I would go ith the yellow and blue print you are using on the left as my fave :) Good luck with your choices and can't wait to see what you choose! Kathi
I think the blue floral works really well. It gives more definition to the edges of the blocks. The yellow floral seems to "muddy" the edges of the blocks a bit.
Of course I am just seeing a picture, the effect could be much different in person.
I would select yellow floral all the way round but the blue all the way would work just as well! the multi second pic seems to overwhelm the wonderful blocks to me but yes would be a modern twist to the old design. decisions - decisions lol
I love the blue and yellow, but then you'd have to split the setting triangles on the sides to ALSO be half and half.... otherwise I like the blue floral on the right
actually if doing the half and half thing, you kind of have to have the yellow at the bottom and the blue at the top of the quilt to mimic the blocks... just a thought
No chance you have the dark yellow from the center? I'd go with the blue floral on the left on the top picture... it sets off the blocks better than the yellow floral I think. It seems to stay in the background and bring the blocks to the front for viewing..... just my 2 cents =) Whatever you select will be wonderful as I always love how your quilts come out.
It's like 13 sunsets over water. Beautiful! In my opinion, I would move the bottom left yellow with the top right blue setting triangles. It would make a right and bottom blue with a left and top yellow border. It mimics the way the log cabin is constructed. In the second picture, I am not liking the fact that the cabin is disappearing in the blue border. Have you tried the other way around? The yellow at the bottom and the blue on top? Sorry, I guess I am only adding to your questions instead of helping to find an answer. Anyway, I am only saying. Your blocks are very beautiful and "refreshing" if I may say that. I am sure you will find a great way to border them.
At first I was going to say yellow floral all the way, no question. But I think the blue floral would be good too. It is a bit more subdued...the yellow floral makes it a VERY yellow quilt.Still pretty but alot of yellow. If you follow it with a blue border it might help to calm it down. How will you ever decide.
Love the look of blue and yellow for these blocks! For the setting triangles I would definitely choose the blue floral. The yellow floral seems to gobble up the yellow of the squares, whereas the blue floral makes both the blue and yellow of the square pop.
Another vote for the blue floral for the setting triangles. Nothing better than a blue and yellow quilt! It's going to be beautiful no matter what you choose.
Blue floral for the setting triangles then the yellow floral around it for a border. How's that for using them both? If not enough for a border then binding with the yellow floral would be lovely.
Just MHO, but I feel like the yellow floral competes with the blocks for attention and the blue floral lets them shine, while giving them a nice framework. In the second photo the yellow at the top and blue at the bottom gives me kind of a sunset feeling, and it is pretty, but half of each of the top and bottom row of blocks get lost while creating that effect. Depends on if you want your efforts to make those rows to "fade into the sunset". : )
I like the blue floral, it makes the log cabins pop. The top yellow and bottom blue ones just eat up the log cabins and you lose them in the border. The yellow floral seems a little light to showcase the log cabins.
Lots of thoughts here :) Are you sure you want to know what we think? It is a good exercise to compare my thoughts with what others are thinking. I find taking a picture of the options so helpful. I like the blue floral all the way around. It seems to compliment the centers of the log cabins. Lots of work in Log Cabin blocks... I wouldn't want to loose the edges of the blocks. Looking forward to seeing what you decide on. Janita
The yellow floral seems to blend more with the blogs and "match", but I like the blue floral best because it floats the blocks and gives them good definition. sarah@forrussia.org
I like the light blue best. If you wanted multi fabrics the dark yellow and blue would be great with blue on top and sides and yellow on bottom to allow the chevron shape to remain visible.

Decisions, decisions! I think I like the yellow floral the best....but the blue floral is nice too....
Blue floral all the way around! (we're all giving different advice!!!)

I really like the looks of the blue floral all around! The blocks are beautiful

Yellow floral everywhere.

Blue floral. The other fabrics make parts of the log cabin blocks fade away and the graphic character is lost.
Blue floral all the way around. It's going to be a lovely quilt.
Until I really looked, I didn't notice the difference between the two florals in the first photo. Either one or both would look good.

I'm all for the yellow floral....makes everything pop! Whatever you choose will be gorgeous, though....lovely blocks and fabric!
I like the look of the half and half in the first photo, but if you want to go with just one - I like the blue floral.
Love the colors. I am a yellow person so I would go that way, but the mix looks great too.
I like the yellow floral the best!
I vote for the blue floral. It gives the quilt depth by letting the blocks stand on their own.
Blue floral ...I'm afraid that yellow will be too much fade !
Hugs from France !! :)

I think the yellow floral makes the log cabins pop, all together very pretty.
Love, love, love the first one! Great log cabins!

Love your blocks--blue floral for me, too. I think it sets off the blocks beautifully, hugs, Julierose
The blue floral really makes the blocks pop
I like the blue better. The yellow is too busy, and doesn't show off the blocks as well.
I like the blue floral best. Good luck on getting this one finished up.

Yellow floral on the left first picture does it for me. It picks up on the best of the colours in your blocks.
My favourite is the blue on the right. Good like deciding...
I like either of the floral prints. The blue one gives the quilt a calmer look, and the yellow is livelier. Can't wait to see what you choose!
Floral yellow!

I kind of like the idea of the top picture with both florals!
