Batting Scraps

Since I have been working a lot with scraps lately, I thought I would show you a new product I am experimenting with. It is a fusible tape used to join your scraps of batting together to make a quilt size batt. I accumulate a lot of batting scraps and many of them I use up for miniature quilts. But I still have way more batting scraps than my minis will ever use up. I always say "You paid for the whole piece (of fabric or batting) so why not use the whole piece"?!
In the past I have hand stitched and/or machine zigzagged batting scraps together and have not been happy with either the look of it, or the waste of time working on batting prep.
This new product is called "Heat Press Batting Together". You can watch the video of how to use it at their website - click here. No instructions come with the little package, so the video was helpful. The little piece of plastic around the tape was annoying to remove...you have to cut it off (don't spend precious minutes looking for the end to peel it off like I did!) but be careful not to cut into the tape!
This product is just like having strips of fusible interfacing all perfectly cut for you. It worked great and I have constructed 2 baby quilt sized batts from small bits. Next I'm going to try using larger chunks to construct a twin size batt and see how that works out.

This sounds a great idea!
Is it widely available? I haven't seen it in the UK yet

It's funny - I saw it on display at my quilt shop the other day but I didn't check it out. I will have to take a closer look next time I am there. I have so many long narrow strips of batting hanging around waiting to be used in something!

I have found it to be kind of expensive and instead have used strips of lightweight fusible interfacing. If you cut 2 1/2" strips of it and use the lightest weight type of interfacing it's way cheaper and works just as well. And you don't have to peel annoying tape off like on some of the more expensive stuff.

Thanks for sharing your "review" Kathy. I've seen it advertised and have heard other quilters discuss it as well; not sure if/when I'll try it out myself.

I get lazy about sewing my batting bits together and they seem to pile up. I'll have to look for some of this to try it

Glad to hear you gave this a good review. I bought a roll, but haven't used it yet. Now where did I put it? LOL

interesting, will like a review after you quilt a bigger quilt using a pieced batting and how you liked it.

I guess I'm thinking cheap here -- I don't mind zig zagging my spare batting pieces together. This seems like a money waster to me. It wouldn't be all that hard to make your own equivalent. Maybe I should buy a roll to see what the equivalent would be! Ease and speed I get but the quilter in me that sometimes surfaces and wants to pinch pennies is coming out! Of course, I like to buy a specific prewound bobbin and those aren't cheap. I guess we pick our products. Thanks for the review. B.

I have heard of this product, but think it is funny that there are no directions with it. I will have to get some and try it. Will it work for all types of batting?
