Journey of a Quilter

I have been working on my hand embroidery blocks for the "Journey of a Quilter" (by Leanne Beasley) block of the month quilt. I really enjoy having something to work on when the children are watching TV and want me to watch with them. Without some kind of hand work, I find most TV watching boring and mind-numbing. They like to watch 'Dancing with the Stars', 'The Amazing Race', 'Survivorman', 'Deadliest Catch', and 'Little People, Big World'.
I find that I usually have 2 blocks in the works...one I am cutting and piecing, and one I am hand stitching. On the right is my finished block #3. I made a few stitching changes to suit my taste and I am happy with how it worked out. I have just started to stitch block #4.
On the left is the beginning of block #5. I have finished the piecing of the block and tracing the stitch pattern. When I am finished this block, I will be halfway finished with the quilt top. This is a very labour intensive project, but I am enjoying it!

Kathy...when you do the stitching do you have anything behind the fabric? Or do you just have the material? Sometimes I have read about an iron on pellon. Just curious...thanks. Your block looked perfect! I have the patterns and will start soon.

Kathy it's coming along beautifully! I'm still working on block #1 and am really enjoying the process :)

In response to mjjones' question, I am not using any stabilizer on the back. I thought I would try stitching without one and see if I liked it and I do! I could see the benefit of having a stabilizer, especially on the blocks that have the french knots, but I try to use a light colour of floss for those knots so that the thread doesn't show through to the front of the block. Leanne Beasley recommends a product called Weaveline, which we don't have in Canada (that I have seen).

Beautiful blocks. I am working on the Leanne's House blocks and they too are labor intensive. I have three months worth and I need to devote a weekend to getting the blocks stitched and marked so I can have the embroidery to do in the evenings.

That's really turning out sweet! As soon as I finish my pumpkin I'll tackle this one! Are you using your own fabrics or did you buy a kit? I plan on using my own fabrics! Keep well!
