Design Wall Monday

Can you believe I forgot all about changing the clocks yesterday? I only remembered when I read the Scrapdash newsletter and saw this meme! Luckily my computer and my phone are smarter than I am, and they adjusted on their own!

Do you remember the scraps that my friend Jackie shared with me?
I have been having so much fun playing with them. I decided to vote the teal coloured fabric off the island because it looked too much like "hanging melons"! And once I saw that, I couldn't unsee it!
If anyone wants the melon scraps let me know and I'll mail them to you!

So then I sorted the 1" squares and strips of neutral and dark scraps into various lengths. I figured out how to sew this 3" block which uses the scraps very efficiently.

Here are the 4 blocks I've made so far. I'm thinking of  setting the blocks  together with some sashing and dark cornerstones?
I'm going to keep sewing the pieces together until I have enough blocks to make into a placemat.

The fabrics in the cornerstone blocks are very nice. I don't see melons but I'm not going to tell you what I see. I don't think you want an R rated blog. Happy stitching!

there are always some clocks we have to change and yesterday morning I was running around room to room changing the clocks that needed to be changed having not done it the night before - your meme reminded me I have the clock in the car to do still - thank heaven's that is an easy one.

LOL! Turn those melons upside down and they'll look a whole lot better :-)

Love your little blocks - I am hooked on the smaller ones.! There is a pattern that I really like but the blocks are just too big. I am going to downsize them - will make more, but the quilt will be prettier! Have a great day - Texas is going to let us vote to leave DST on the November ballot! YEA Hugs

Hanging melons. HA! You've invented a great scrap-buster block. Years and years ago my assistant at the library would groan when DST began. I was young and adjusted to the change right away. Now I understand how she felt!

That's one of those 'period' fabrics you just don't know what to do with. Love how the blocks are coming out.

That's a fun fabric, a "conversation print" if there ever was one. I'd be happy to take the scraps if they're still available.

Love your blocks! Hate having to change the clocks.

Those hanging melons probably wouldn't really be all that noticeable once scattered throughout a quilt.

Love the clock meme. Would love to move one house to the left. Their landscape is so beautiful! 😁 Anywho! If you want to mail your "melons" scrap in Canada, I'd be your taker. Love the way you did your little blocks. It would be a very interesting contender for RSC. Just saying. ;^)

I see hanging melons too.. not my style of fabric!
These little blocks will make a wonderful placemat

Not hanging melons.....turn the fabric right side up and you will see they are flowering cactus! The big barrel cactus plants with a beautiful flower on top of each one.

I am one of those people who have fun with directional fabric, and enjoy figuring out how to cut the fabric so it all goes the same direction. Drives some people nuts, I know, but since I'm already nuts....I enjoy it.

Please don't send me the cactus fabric though.....I'm on a mission to use all the fabric I already have. Judy

Turn that fabric the other direction and have barrel cactus blossoms! Sometimes you just can't make a fabric work for you.

Hanging melons, oh my! The tiny blocks are highly adorable though. I can see how those could be put together nicely.

You do tiny so well! You definitely made good use of those scrapes. I see what you mean about the hanging melons. Not something you can unsee.
