Hand stitching is sometimes a little more challenging these days since my bifocals
were not quite "up to snuff". I am now finding it necessary to have special quilting glasses. Let's just call it an equipment malfunction, instead of visual deterioration! I will be quilting the bottom border today and am looking forward to getting the binding on and celebrating a finished quilt as soon as next week!
If I wouldn't have been so distracted by my Life is Beautiful embroidery blocks, this would have been finished a long time ago! Maybe you know how that goes?!?!
What are you stitching by hand today? Link up your blog post below and share your project with us.

Hmmm, I'm having similar issues. Can be discouraging, but I'm just too busy to let it interfere. Sounds like you're in the same frame of mind. Looks like a lovely piece.
But Life is Beautiful is a beautiful distraction : ) Enjoy your stitching today :)
I will be working my redwork by hand today and stars by machine - changing off. I am one of the lucky ones and can see close up pretty well but need my glasses for any thing about 3 feet away from me.
Always fun to be near the finish line, isn't it? There are some darling prints in the piece! :)
I have dedicated sewing glasses...I hate my bifocals! I am looking forward to seeing your finished quilt but I understand your distraction with Life is Beautiful....
Oh yes--I can relate to distracted sewing!! On Monday, my dental hygienist had some awesome glasses that looked almost like binoculars. They would be perfect for stitching, but she said they start at $200. I guess I'll stick with my 3 power readers. Happy stitching!
There is always something new to distract us. I can't wait to see this finished quilt. I have bifocals too, but I need them more for the distance than for the up close. I often take them off when stitching during the day. At night I definitely can't stitch without them.
I know the feeling with glasses and close up work. Looking forward to seeing your finished piece!
I've been having the same issues with my vision. I have an eye exam scheduled for later this month, so we'll see if there's been a change in my prescription for my close work. I'm curious though, did you buy an extra pair of glasses with a stronger close prescription? I've been thinking about that, but my vision insurance wouldn't cover a second pair ... I wonder if the cost might be more affordable if I skipped the super-duper thin lenses and maybe the progressive lenses (just went with regular bifocal).
I have a pair of "computer glasses" (benefit of a former employer) that also work great for sewing as long as I don't need to also see across the room. Mostly I use them when I am (machine) sewing ... but I think I'll try them today when I'm stitching down a binding and see how they work for that.
I only have seven flower to go for my project - I may concentrate on those if Life doesn't get in the way. Love your quilt.
Nice to see Always Home is going to be finished soon, though I can sympathise with your getting carried away but Life is Beautiful.
I was supposed to get bifocals, years ago, but, kept putting it off. I broke my glasses in March, and, I've been trying to get used to bifocals ever since. It isn't working. I finally got a pair of single vision glasses, and will just have to take them off (like I have been for years) when I want to see something up close. I did get a pair of bifocals for the sewing room. Now I can stitch and watch TV at the same time (I did it all yesterday afternoon, but, didn't post). I also have contacts again, which I can use with reading glasses for stitching. At least I can see to read the computer again.
I too find myself using needles with larger eyes and bifocals with reading glasses in front! Perhaps this was the true historical reason our quilting foremothers developed "Big stitch" quilting!
I've noticed that with my glasses as well. Very annoying! Your quilt is looking wonderful!
I feel your pain. I don't need glasses for reading or up close work except for stitching. Ugh. I'm looking forward to seeing your finish!
I recently had to get "hand-sewing" glasses too! I found I was taking my bifocals off and holding whatever I was stitching more closely than I read. I love the sewing glasses! Best purchase I've made in a while. Good luck with yours.
I can work with "equipment malfunction". Too bad you can't apply that concept to one's knees. Hope you finished that last border.
