Cozy Afternoon BOM

Cozy Afternoon Block #1
Did you remember that today is the day for the start of the Cozy Afternoon BOM!! Did you sign up to receive your free patterns? If not, click here to join in. This is a 5 month BOM so you will have time to finish this quilt for a Christmas gift if you want.
Although I was initially unsure of the pale fabrics I picked out for my project, I am very happy with how the pale pieced blocks provide a background which features the special design in the centre block. It helps the embroidery to stand out a little more and not distract from it. My photos don't show the accurate colours of my fabrics, and the yellow fabric is not that dark in real life. But you get the idea right?

You can make your centre blocks using any technique you prefer - embroidery, applique, or even just a plain piece of fabric. Isn't this just the cutest tea cup full of flowers?
I am making my centre blocks using hand embroidered backstitch, with 3 strands of a pink DMC slightly variegated floss.

Cozy Afternoon Block #2

I also added a bit of embellishment with buttons for the flower centres on block #1, and a button for the top of the tea pot on block #2.

Jacquelynne has organized a blog hop for everyone to visit some of the quilters who have completed these first two blocks.
May I offer you a cup of pomegranate tea while you visit the sites? You are going to have a great time meeting these quilters and being inspired by their projects:

And now onto the giveaway :)
Jacquelynne is giving away these digital patterns to one of my blog readers. All you have to do is leave a comment below and tell me what your favourite kind of tea is, if you can even narrow it down to one kind! If you're not a tea drinker, you can tell me what your favourite hot beverage is.
Good luck everyone! The draw will be open until Saturday and the winner's name will be drawn on Sunday.
Enjoy your Cozy Afternoon!

It came out so adorable. I haven't received the pattern yet...it's still pretty early here! I like peach iced tea during the summer months.

You have mentioned this BOM before and I told myself 'no way' since I am plodding along on other things and don't need more applique in my life right now but you've got me hooked now with the thought of relaxing with simple embroidery...:)

Drinking tea with you while doing a little stitching sounds lovely! I love blueberry lemon herbal tea from Timothy's.

Sherry said...

My favorite tea is raspberry, or maybe blueberry. But then there is honey chamomile, and all the other fruit flavored teas. Hmmmmm, kind of hard to pick just one favorite.

Earl Grey is definitely the best tea. Your blocks are beautiful.

This looks like such a great project. I can hardly wait to get started. I'm impressed that it's not a long project that takes a year to collect the blocks and then another 3 years to complete. My favourite all time tea has to be peppermint but if I want a special boost I have a Saskatoon Berry tea.

I love tea. Plain black tea (preferably Tetley British blend) Earl Grey, Lady Grey, Irish breakfast, constant comment, I like herbal twas occasionally.
I'm planning to enjoy a cuppa this afternoon whilst willing away a cozy afternoon working on A Cozy Afternoon - love the colors you chose

I drink tea all day long. Tetley - just the regular kind is my tea of choice. The odd time I treat myself to some Chai - also by Tetley.

Cute blocks! My favorite tea is Chai, although I like almost any tea except green. Yes, I know it's supposed to be healthy, and that's probably why I don't like it.

I am signed up for this block series. My favorite tea....chai with honey and milk or my usual is peppermint!

Both of your blocks are really pretty! I love redwork!

I had signed up for this BOM but with everything else I have going on I don't have the time right now so I'll enjoy watching how others are finishing their blocks.

I host a weekly Stitchery Link Party for all things hand embroidered and I would love to have you come link up this post so that my readers can come see to and perhaps join in the BOM. http://www.supermomnocape.com/2015/06/15/vintage-embroidery-monday-stitchery-link-party-10/

I do hope you come join in the fun.

I am a coffee drinker, but I am loving this green mint tea I found at the Bigelow Tea Farm in SC this past April. So good hot or cold - just a touch of honey, ummm good.

Hmmmm... thanks for reminding me that the BOM starts today. I still haven't seen it in my inbox, but I'm eager to get started!

My current favourite tea is an iced tea that I've been making to take to work on these summer-like days - I fill a pitcher of water and put in 4 or 5 plain old black tea bags and 1 bag of Bigelow's Peppermint Herb Tea. Put it in the refrigerator overnight, then it's ready to fill my insulated pot in the morning.

The peppermint really makes the tea refreshing!

I am a fan of pear tea, really anything fruity. Looking forward to seeing everyone's work

Smart fabric choices, allowing the embroidery to shine! And I love the subtlety of the variegated floss.
I prefer hot coffee to hot tea (true Seattlite, haha!), but I do love plain iced tea during hot summers. Otherwise, make it a Long Island please ;-)

I love your project and now that I have seen so many great ideas I am rethinking my direction with mine. I must make a decision today so that I can begin this evening. I love tea and it is hard to choose a favorite by I do love a cup of English Breakfast tea whenever I get the chance.

Great embroidered block. This quilt is going to be so cute. My favorite tea is any kind of mint tea.

I downloaded (and printed) my patterns this morning. Not sure what fabrics I'll use. I love lots of types of tea, but, I'd have to say Constant Comet tea, since it is what my daddy used to make for our tea parties, when I was growing up. It always reminds me of him. My daddy is the one who taught me how to use a sewing machine. He is the reason I now collect vintage sewing machines.

My favourite tea is Tetley. Your blocks are so sweet. Love the stitchery!

Your blocks are looking sweet! I'm a flavoured coffee kind of gal!

I don't think we get pomegranets in New Zealand, I always imagine them as having a flowery perfume, as I only see them in scented toiletries, maybe I need to try one of the new deli tyle vege stores.

I do so like your stitcheries, I am an addicted stitcher I find it relaxing, but this time I'm going to splash out and try applique.

Julie Cefalu said...

Hi Kathy, Your blocks are really pretty. I wish I could embroider, but it's one skill I haven't mastered yet. I did the applique version, instead. Great choice of fabric colors. It really lets your handwork shine!

Your pastel fabrics really make the embroidery stand out. I'm still trying to decide on fabric colors, much less whether to applique, piece, or embroider the center block. I just discovered this BOM yesterrday and I am so excited.

I love the inclusion of the little button on the teapot -- I think I may do that with mine! Aren't these designs just darling? I think they'll be keeping hands busy on Sundays! :) Right now, my favorite morning teabag is Lady Grey, my favorite afternoon tea is Yogi's Kumbucha green tea, which is lovely iced, and my new favorite loose tea is a new black tea I just picked up from a local artisan tea shop, called Monk's Meditation. I'm all about some tea!! :)

Hi, I have seen the blocks out of bright colors by others and thought those best but I really like the colors you've chosen. The embroidery looks great. It is sort of an antique look to me which I find very appealing. Thank you for sharing your blocks.

Oops, I saw the other blocks first (of bright colors) but yours is just as wonderful. Who am I kidding? I love them all!
