Slow Sunday Stitching

Do you have special tools that you don't use just because they are "special"? While hand stitching the binding on my little Superpower wallhanging, I got out a treasured thimble and decided to use it.
What am I saving it for?
So my descendants can gawk at it 100 years from now and wonder what it was for!?! LOL
So I took my beautiful porcelain Meissen thimble out of it's box, admired it, and actually used it!
What good is a thimble sitting in a fancy box?
I used it.
Yes I did.

I don't know how long a porcelain thimble would hold up to the harsh treatment of having pins and needles stuck in it and scraped on it, but I am trying to put my new mantra into practice as often as possible, and find out!
The experience of using this thimble was lovely, although I would have liked it more if the indentations were a little deeper to catch the needle in a more sturdy way, but it did the job, and I felt extravagant while using it!

It's Slow Stitching Sunday - take out your beautiful tools and fabrics, and USE them!!
Today is the day to treat yourself to something special! Then link up your blog post below and share what you are hand stitching today.

I have a beautiful silver thimble that my sister gave me. I love it and use it all the time.. I have to confess I have had a few heart stopping moments when I thought I had lost it. That doesn't stop me using it. I'm sure she would rather I use it.

What a lovely thimble! I don't have any extraordinarily special quilting tools. I did see some pretty thimbles at Paducah, but I just couldn't bring myself to spend that kind of money. ;-)

I am glad that you are using your treasured thimble. Hopefully, future generations will also treasure it because 'granny' used it to make her wonderful quilts.

I guess I always thought the ceramic thimbles for display not for use? I couldn't get the link to work so I will try to remember to check back later.

A nice and useful thimble, and good to hear that it works. I have a few of these too. May be I should use them intead of having a hole in my finger all the time. Have a nice Sunday. I'm working on my slow stitches, and will link up later.

Love your mantra - and your thimble being used. Need to check on my hidden special stuff and get it out in the open. Thanks for the inspiration!

A very pretty thimble! I can see why you hesitated to use it. But your Superpower quilt is the perfect quilt to use it on!

I use the needlecraft guild thimble for quiting, but just recently got the clover adjustable open sided thimble for applique and really love it. It is just a cheapy but it is comfortable and the dimples really control the needle. I may try itor with some hand quilting too. I am not much of a gadget collector, and I do use what I own or it get donated to someone who can. I have no time for clutter or things I don't use.

What a pretty thimble. So glad you are using it. I have such large fingers (inherited from my dad) that I have yet to find a thimble that fits. I use a leather thimble. I no longer save any "special" items. I would rather make treasured memories with them for as long as they last.

I use all of my pretty (and antique) things, but the only thimble I use is a modern one. My Mum's doesn't fit me at all, and the "special" one I have is a china one = decorative only!

No special unused tools in my tool box! Well, I do use my husband's grandmother's tatting shuttle now and then.

Lovely thimble! Sometimes it's hard to use something that's both pretty and practical.

I have a large collection of thimbles, but, I don't use any of them. Thimbles and I just don't get along, use wise. Cute thimble.

What a fun post! I don't know if I have any special tools--I think everything I have is about worn out from use.:)
