Blockheads Update

A couple more blocks have been created to add to my 4.5" Blockheads collection.

A traditional bow tie is still one of my favourite blocks, and this version is called Sharply Dressed. It is posted as an "bonus block".

Lisa Bongean posted an alternate block (for those that did not want to applique a bird for block #14). This block is called "Star Turn" so I used a star fabric.

And here are all my Blockheads on the design wall. I have block 15 and 16 to finish and I'll be caught up!

Moda Blockheads 4

I am really enjoying this round of Moda Blockheads and using up lots of small blue scraps to make the 4.5" block size.

Block #12 is the beloved friendship star (pattern written by Deb Strain). Every sampler quilt needs one of these blocks. I worked hard on these two blocks to get the patterned fabric all going in the same direction.

Block #13 is the classic Ohio star block (pattern written by Debbie Maddy) using little 2" hourglass blocks. I am making larger Ohio star blocks this week for the "O say can you sew" mystery, and it was fun to make a block in half size.

Here are all my Moda Blockheads on the design wall. Such a variety of yummy blues! I think the top left block is too dark and might lighten that one up.

Blockheads on the Design Wall

I have been keeping up fairly well with the 5" Blockheads pattern releases. I am sewing all my blocks in variations of blue, which is the colour of the month at the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.

The last 4 blocks have been sewn on Elsie. She looks a lot like her younger sibling  Charity (who sewed my May Mini), but how you can tell them apart is that Elsie has a Singer Centennial badge because she was made in 1951. I love the little table that folds down and holds these small blocks perfectly.

Block #9 is called "Cross My Mind" by designer Brigitte Heitland.

Block #10 is called "Autumnal" by Chelsi Stratton. I used the only blue fabric I had that with some leaves.

This is bonus block #4 called "Zipper" designer by Moda Fabrics.

And this last one is another bonus block #5 called "Wheat Field".

The most recently posted block pattern #11 is a doozy but I love it and plan to make it into it's own mini quilt.

Here are all my 5" Blockheads on the design wall today.

Blockheads IIII Update

A few more blocks have been added to my Blockheads project.

I found a bonus block pattern called Mix and Match by Michelle White. It used up little scraps and was easy to sew.

This is block #5 called Two of Five by Barbara Groves which is really a churn dash block.

This is block #6 called Spinning into Spring (great name!) by Linzee McCray. This block was more fun to sew because of all the pieces, and the possibilities for making the block look different with value changes.

Here are all the Blockheads on the design wall. There is one more bonus pattern to make and I'll be caught up. Loving it so far!

Design Wall Monday

The design wall is full of blue and white today!

I sewed the 4th Blockheads block called Spinner by Anne Sutton of Bunny Hill. I'm making this series of blocks in the 5" size (4.5" finished). If you want to join in, check out the Moda Blockheads IIII archive page

Here are the first 4 blocks on the design wall. You can't really tell how sweet they are, but trust me... they are cute!

I remembered that I had made some 9" blocks for a group quilt project that has been temporarily forgotten about, so I put them on the design wall too.

They all play nicely together, but they are for 2 different projects. Maybe.

Blockheads 4 Update

If you missed my post about the beginning of this round of Blockheads, click here to read why I just had to start another sampler project (well, beside the obvious reason of I am a quiltaholic!)

Block #3 is called Kouign Amann by Minick and Simpson and was the trickiest block so far with 45 pieces in a 5" (4.5" finished) block. I sewed sections of the block together and measured each one to ensure the block would end up to be the correct size.

Here is the finished block.
Such sweet little pieces and so many points to lose! It turned out okay although it's a little ruffly on the bottom.

It seems I only want to use blue fabrics so far in the first 3 blocks.

Block #4 has been posted today and I can't wait to cut and sew. This will be an easier block with only 13 pieces.

Yet Another?

Guess what?!? I am starting another block project - Moda Blockheads #4

I participated in Blockheads #1 and Blockheads #2, but forbid myself to start #3 until the first two were completed quilts. Well, I'm sad to say they are still unfinished quilts AND I missed out on Blockheads #3. But this time my dear quilting friend Diane "needs" me to sew along with her, so I'm doing it to help her. Any excuse will do to start a new project! 😄

I that they are offering patterns for each block in 2 sizes, and of course the miniature block 4.5" is my favourite. This time I am not starting out with a coordinated group of fabrics. I'm just sewing from scraps and plan to make blocks for fun. They might end up in a placemat, or a mug mat, or a scrappy lap quilt. I might only make the first block or make all the blocks. I'm giving myself permission to play and have fun - thank you Cheryl Arkison!

Here is the link to block #1 if you'd like to try it.
