Welcome to the weekly hand stitching party, where we value the slow process of creating with our own hands. If you knit, bead, hand quilt, cross stitch, embroider, tat, applique, hook rugs, hand piece quilt blocks, or enjoy english paper piecing (did I miss anything?!) you will find other like-minded stitchers here!
Every once in a while I come across something beautiful that I want to share with you and recently I saw this gorgeous stitch art piece called "The Embroiderers" by Ercigoj Art measuring approximately 24" x 30".
I cannot explain why I love this piece so much. I know it's popular now, but "machine embroidery" seems like such an oxymoron to me. Yet here is a piece made by machine incorporating thousands of stitches, taking over 300 hours to construct and picturing women doing embroidery by hand. WOW!
This week I finished my Morewood Mystery quilt and hand stitched 264" of binding. It was fun to stitch a pink and orange binding.
And since then, I've been slow to pick up another project. I always feel a little lost after a big finish, but I'm sure I'll find something to put stitches into today. We are under a 28 day "stay at home" order in Ontario, so I won't be going anywhere. Since a lot of the outdoor yard work is already done, that means it's a day of stitching ahead.
What are you hand stitching this week? We'd love to see what you are working on and hope you will link up your blog post below.

It is a very beautiful embroidery and as you say serene. I looked up the artist to see what nationality he was. The picture looks Italian and he was born in Florence. I hope you have a peaceful day stitching!
I too, always feel a bit lost when I have finished a stitching project. The machine embroidery is indeed beautiful, peaceful and serene. I cannot imagine the hours and love that has gone into this gorgeous work of art. Enjoy your day stitching.
That embroidery is amazing, I know what you mean about feeling lost after finishing a project, I suppose the secret is to have another project ready to start as soon as it's finished, that's what I try to do but it's not always easy. Enjoy your stitching today.
It is an amazing piece. Looks like a real picture.
Congrats! Finihed a quilt is something to enjoy.
Happy slow stitching, Kathy!
You have a finish! We need multiple projects to work on. Many years ago, my mother in law and myself decided to finish all the projects we were working on, it took almost nine months. Once they were done for two months I just could not get into or start anything really. Since then there are more projects unfinished on the list, so they all get love and worked on until they eventually gets finished. New projects get started and added to the mix. Just love the machine embroidered art work, it takes time to do and it is beautiful. Can you imagine the layers of the skirt on hot days sitting doing hand embroidery? We are so lucky to have modern air conditioners to keep us cool. Good light. They sat outside to make use of the natural light. What I enjoy the most is the peace and serenity of the picture, spending quiet time creating with the beauty of nature surrounding them.
Congrats on your wonderful finish Kathy! I love the embroidered picture...it is featuring such contentment to be found in hand stitching while ironically being machine stitched.
That is an amazing piece of art. Thank you for sharing. Have a great Sunday!
I'm sorry you all are back to being home again for four weeks. I don't know how extensive your stay at home order is but I hope it will work and Canada will be on its road to being well again. My area of the US is doing ok but others are really bad and I'm sure the people will revolt if told to stay home again - they do not seem to appreciate being told what is needed to stay well. I'm so glad we have our vaccines and should be safe after this following week.
Can you imagine making that beautiful embroidery? Congratulations on your pretty finish! Stay well!
What a beautiful embroidery. So sorry to hear that you are on lockdown again. I am sure you will find something to work on. Thankfully, things have been okay in my area of the US and Hubby and I have our vaccines. Still, masks and social distancing is my norm. Have a good week!
Gorgeous picture! Reminds me of spending time with friends outside while we work on our slow stitching projects. The good thing about having lots of WIP’s ...there’s always something to work on!
What a beautiful embroidery! And congrats on your quilt finish. I avoid the post project let down by always having another project started! My challenge is to keep the number of new projects under control because I always underestimate how long something will take to finish!
That's a really beautiful piece of embroidery! Hard to imagine how a machine could do that. Your Morewood Mystery quilt turned out beautifully! I love its happy colors. Have a lovely Sunday, Kathy!
So sorry you have gone into lockdown again. There are parts of the US that should be doing so, but the "you can't tell me what to do" attitude of too much of the population make that almost impossible. I'm just thankful to have gotten both my shots. I hope the vaccine distribution in Canada can improve soon, so you can get on the path to recovery. I'm sure you will not have any problem finding a new project to get immersed in.
Hi Kathy! The embroidered piece is beautiful. The setting just exudes calm and quiet, and all three stitchers are engrossed in their projects. My favorite part of quilting is the hand stitching of the binding at the end. I enjoy that last bit of time thinking about where the quilt started and who may be snuggling underneath it. ~smile~ Roseanne
The embroidered picture is stunning! I also enjoy
putting binding on by hand. It's very relaxing and
I can do this while I'm watching t.v. Hope you have
a great stitching day!
That machine embroidery piece is indeed lovely. Sometimes, after finishing a big project, I just like to marinate in the spirit of the finish and rejoice with the quilt/project that I've finished. I'm excited to be hand binding a couple more projects in the near future.
I also make items on my machine embroidery machine. At first I felt like I was "cheating", but then I really enjoyed the process. :)
The embroidery piece is georgeous! Congrats on your finish! I`m sure you find a new project or something to work on.
