Slow Sunday Sitching

Welcome to the weekly hand stitching party!

Whatever the season is that you are currently in, or whatever the weather is that you are experiencing, it is the perfect day for stitching!

Last week when I was visiting my grandbaby, I had some time to stitch and of course I had brought along my project bag (just in case).

But it was missing one thing - a needle. I couldn't believe it! This is a  selection of needles for hand stitching that I can see from my stitching chair at home. SOOooo many needles and yet I didn't have one in my bag.

So I went to the nearest Michaels (wasting a half hour of my stitching window) and bought the smallest needle they had for hand stitching. It was a package of Gold Needles size 1-3-5 whatever that means.  I usually use a size 26 or 28. Ugh! It was like stitching with a stick. But I still managed to get some stitches in and learned a valuable lesson - always be sure you have your favourite needles and scissors in your hand stitching bag!

Here is my progress on Kind Words (by Modern Folk Embroidery) stitched on 14 count hand dyed aida using  "Crumpets" floss both by Roxy Floss. In spite of the bad needle, I am happy that you can't tell the stitches that were made with it. And as soon as I got home, I threw those Michaels needles in the garbage and put some nice needles in the project bag!

What are you hand stitching today? Please share you slow progress with us below!

So frustrating to have brought everything you need except the needle! Your kind words piece looks beautiful, in spite of the needle issue. Have a wonderful Sunday, Kathy!

I have had to make an emergency trip to Michaels for needles too when I dropped my one and only needle in the car when we were on a road trip. Now, I always have backup needles in my bag. I bought tapestry needles at Michaels and they worked fine for cross stitching.
Your cross stitch is looking great! Love the sentiment.
I will be doing some cross stitching today, maybe in the car, and I will try not to drop my needle!

My grandmother called it stitching with a fence post.

I also have a giant collection of needles!

Important lesson learned indeed. I have done that more than once. It's always a bummer to get to my slow stitching status and realize I don't have all my supplies. I JUST opened up an envelope this morning containing new longer needles that I got on eBay for hand quilting. Woohoo. They look like something I'm really going to like.

I've also realized that quilters seem to be collectors.

I am currently emptying all of my notions bags and getting the repacked with all the necessities. Great reminder.

That was annoying Kathy! Lucky you had a shop reasonable close to you for emergency supplies.

I have two travel needle work projects and keep needles in both bags. You still did good work with your poor substitutes.

It is funny, but I am one of those people who are not picky about my needles. I guess because I learned with whatever needle my mom or grandmother had on hand.

I can relate to you frustration as I've done the same thing! Your stitching is lovely and the "Stitcher" project is so pretty!
