Welcome to the weekly hand stitching party! We are well into a very hot August here and I have to admit that I have not spent much time outside this summer. We have had frequent poor air quality warnings and regular heat advisories.
This was yesterday:
Maybe it's just me, but I'm tired of it! So I found the perfect project to work on... Anti-Summer Club! It fits the mood perfectly for me. And also, it's hard stitching and made me even crabbier! I don't really enjoy stitching with black or white as it seems to be harder for my eyes. But I persevered and messed up the lovely lace pattern on the umbrella. I ripped out and re-stitched, and finally said "my umbrella is unique" and chopped it off on the left side so the skull could fit underneath. UGH!
Eventually I decided that the paper pattern was too hard for me to follow. Maybe it's heat stroke - it's a lovely, easy looking pattern! So after the umbrella fiasco, I imported the project into pattern keeper (which is a cross stitching APP) and it has been smooth sailing ever since. It's so much easier for me. You can see on the left side (tilt your head!) that yesterday I added 371 stitches for a total of 769 stitches completed. This project has 8,691 stitches in total. Now why on earth was I thinking I could start and finish that in August?!? Craziness! Anyway I am 8.85% complete. Stay tuned to see how this drama will play out!
But there has been some fun stitching while sitting beside the window air conditioner - Extraordinary Birds SAL has seen some progress.

It certainly sounds hot and humid there. I suppose you are longing for cooler days to come. As for me, warm spring days sound fabulous to me. The Pattern Finder App sounds wonderful. Such a pity you had so much trouble with your Anti Summer Club cross stitch. I don't like cross stitching with black thread, either. Enjoy stitching your Extraordinary Birds SAL today.
This hot weather is exhausting isn't it! Hope you can stay cool and put some more stitches in your project.
The heat has been brutal this summer. I try to get my walk and outside jobs done early in the morning or later in the evening and then spend the rest of the day inside. The umbrella looks just fine to me!
Thanks for the pattern keeper app info. Your umbrella looks like it's supposed to be like that.
Colorado has had that heat for the last week or so, and it's making me crabby, too! We're supposed to get a break from it today - hope your heatwave doesn't last too long, Kathy. The Anti-Summer project is cute and hilarious - have fun stitching it!
I think your umbrella is more interesting your way, looks like it is tilted and more of a natural way to hold one.
This heat makes it hard to take my stitching outside. I still try even if for a short time. I know I will be glad I did when January comes around!
I'm tired of the hot weather too!!
Ooh, the heat this summer has been brutal! Like you, I've stayed in more than gone out. LOL, "Anti-Summer" definitely nails the sentiment! The Bird SAL has been interesting to follow your work on it -- I don't think I've ever heard of or seen that Hornbill before. Always amazing what doing a craft will teach you beyond the actual stitching!
We are expecting the very hot weather this week. We have central A/C so I can easily stay cool. I like when the warm weather heats up the pool water. I enjoy a late afternoon dip before dinner. I like your stitching projects. Stay cool.
If you had not mentioned it, I never would have noticed your “chopped off” umbrella! It’s very cute! Yes, I’ve also taken to reading the digital cross-stitch patterns. Your feat #8 is beautiful! Such detail! Happy stitching!
It is extremely hot and humid here in Montreal, Canada! Lovely work on the stitching!
