Welcome to the first weekly hand stitching party in August! So glad you could join us today as we get out our threads and needles, and put some stitches into our favourite projects.
I finished a little project for the Colorado Stitcher's Cross stitch camp July 2025. We were encouraged to make something from our favourite designer, and I chose a Primrose Cottage project called "Hello Summer". Stitched on 18 count aida, the finished size is 3.75" x 2.5".
The little bees are kind of lost at the top, but that's okay. I probably should have not used such a light background fabric. They did recommend a pink fabric, but I didn't have any. Oh well, I still really like how it turned out.
I made a flosstube video this week of the projects I worked on in July. If you have a chance, pop over to Youtube to see what I've been up to, and to see an old stitched piece I made in 1990!
I have been really working hard on my Extraordinary Birds SAL and in spite of that effort, I am several steps behind. This is one of my favourite birds called a cassowary. It has been so interesting to learn about so many different birds from all over the world in this stitching project.
There have been 10 steps posted so far, and I am currently on step 7. There will be a total of 14 steps so I will probably fall more behind. But that's okay because I am loving it! This is how it looks so far...
I do hope you are stitching on projects that you love and can't wait to spend some time with today! And please link up your blog post below and share your slow progress with us!

The Hello Summer cross stitch is a pretty finish. Your Extraordinary Birds SAL is looking fabulous. Such a lovely design.
Kathy, your stitching is amazing!
Your "Hello Summer" piece is so pretty, Kathy! Mine is also on a white fabric, and I was thinking the same thing about those bees, so I haven't stitched them yet. That cassowary is awesome! Enjoy your Sunday!
Your stitchery projects are amazing. I've never heard of a cassowary, interesting bird!
Such cute stitcheries, Kathy. That cassowary is lovely. I gave you a shoutout in my second last post, just so you know. Take Care, J
Your cross stitching is exquisite, Kathy. I tried watching your YouTube video -- so nice to "meet" the maker behind the blog! But I struggled to hear you even with my speakers turned all the way up. Regarding that cross stitch from 1990, I would bring it to a frame shop. They will be able to open it up, get that gunk out whatever it is, replace the mat if it's soiled or damaged, and then close it up again for you reusing the existing glass and frame so it won't be anywhere near as expensive as reframing the piece. But you'll know it was done professionally and it will be ready for you to enjoy for another 35 years.
Nice little summer finish! So darn cute! Your bird stitching is educational as well as fun to stitch! A double win. Happy stitching!
Those Lola Crow SALS are intense. Don't feel bad about falling behind. I love the look of your Birds, it will be a delight when it is done.
Fun to see your Hello Summer stitch. The bees are a bit hard to see on the pink also. Your extraordinary birds are Extraordinary! Now I’m off to watch your flosstube.
That's so much work you've put into those cross stitch projects. I've just picked up an older cross stitch project and I'd forgotten just how long counted cross stitch takes. You are doing really well with your bird stitchery, that one is complicated!
Lovely stitching. You are right, the bees are a bit tough to see properly.
Thank you for sharing your bird cross stitch. My daddy loves birds and every time I see yours, it brings me joy. I'm behind on a project as well. I love your attitude! You helped me to simply enjoy the process instead of "catching up". Thank you!
