April is purple month at the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. I don't use purple very often in my quilts, and in fact I can't even locate my purple scrap bin at the moment! But there were enough bits laying around to do some sorting and cutting this week.
I made some blocks for my version of scrappy stars. This pattern alternates 25 patch blocks with a star block. Just look at this sweet 3" star block!
I have been having thumb pain and have it immobilized for 6 weeks in a hand brace. That makes quilting very challenging. I have been teaching my left hand to do tasks like cut with scissors and use a rotary cutter. And I am letting my fingers do the work my thumb used to. I have to keep quilting somehow!
Here is my collection of blocks so far!
Only 1 purple block has been finished but today I'll stitch together the pieces I cut out for more blocks to add.

I hope the brace is allowing your thumb to heal so that you will be back to your normal hand sewing soon. The purple blocks are a nice addition to your collection. Take care.
Your collection of blocks are looking amazing.
I hope that brace does the job of relieving the thumb problem so you can get back to sewing quickly. Love those sweet little stars plus the scrappy squares.
is the doctor talking surgery for your thumb? that is what mine does - keeps saying one day you will need to the surgery. I just can't find any brace that is comfortable without giving up all I like to do
So sorry to hear about the thumb issue. Wish you a speedy recovery so you can sew and quilt to your heart's content again. Love your design wall. These blocks will make a fabulous quilt. ;^)
Oooh, ouch. Hope your thumb is better soon! Your blocks are looking great.
Deepest sympathy on the thumb issues. I have arthritis in my thumb from years of computer work. Clicking a mouse with the right thumb really wore it down and before that I always used the thumb for the space bar. Recently I broke my right wrist and was in a cast so then I had to relearn how to use my fingers and thumb. I am happy to say I am much improved but the thumb was the worst part. Resting it didn’t work for making it feel better. My therapist taught me a different way to hold my thumb so that it didn’t hurt as much. Now I do exercises everyday to strengthen my hand. It hurts to do them but less everyday. Definitely hard to learn new ways of doing things. I am super glad to have the use of my right hand back.
Your Rainbow Scrap quilt is a beauty! I’m sorry your thumb is slowing you down.
Oh, there is plenty of purple at my house! LOL. Love that pretty little purple paisley star.
How awkward to try to quilt with your thumb in a brace--but true quilters forge ahead, right? ;)
This is such a pretty RSC project!
Your RSC blocks are so colorful. I really like those stars. Hope your finger heals quickly, it's so frustrating to be physically limited when you want to stitch.
Glad to see that you're not letting your thumb pain stop your quilting progress, Kathy! A challenge, but you are making it happen!
The Scrappy Stars are looking beautiful! I'm sorry your thumb is continuing to bother you, though. Kudos for figuring out different ways to do things!
I really like the star blocks alternating with the 25 patch blocks. So pretty! Hope the thumb recovers soon
So sorry to read that you are still having pain issues with your thumb. It must be rather difficult to try to use scissors with your "other" hand, good on you for persevering.
I am so sorry to hear that you are still having issues with your thumb, Kathy. Six weeks is a long time, but you certainly are staying very busy. Fabulous blocks and love the purple addition.
So pretty!
Pretty blocks! I hope the brace helps ease the pain in your thumb and allow it to rest and recover. Not fun!
I hope your thumb is better soon.
