I have missed the Monday Design Wall postings since my brother has been sick, and I sure do look forward to getting back to my regular blog postings now that he is feeling a little better.
This week I have an old project that I am working on. These blocks were first posted about a year ago - click here to read about it. It is interesting that I sewed the HST's together into these star blocks, which wasn't even a layout I had on my original post!
Now I can't decide what to do next - to sash or not to sash?!?
And what about on pointe?!?
I don't know - what do you think?
I was hoping to be able to link up to the Festival of Half Square Triangles, but I'm not anywhere near finishing this quilt. You should see the great HST projects posted on the Flickr group...wow!
And then when you're done surfing on that site, hop over to Patchwork Times to see more quilt design walls! But before you go, tell me what to do with my HST layout dilemma!

I think I like the No sashing, since it creates a secondary star
I like the blocks separated. I would sash and add another fabric or block in the middle. Oh my....
This one is hard to say, I like all 3 options, the layouts all offer something different for the eye. Sorry I'm no help. Beautiful blocks.
I like both ways so figure out a setting where they are side by side for the center and open as they extend out toward a border. Or vise versa. Maybe space them out with a setting square in the center and block to block around the outside. Either way I love the block.
oh those are so pretty. Can you do both? Have the center sashed and then do a border of blocks that aren't sashed? Can you tell I'm a bit indecisive ;)
I'd go for on point and no sashing. I think you'd get a better secondary design that way...... just sayin'
Take care.
If you want the blocks to stand out the sashing works best. If you want to have a secondary pattern than no sashing is good. I like the on point version, with sashing, but these blocks can go any way you want. Sometimes we just have too many choices, don't we?
Wow....love them all, but, for sure my fave is the first one.....no sashing. Absolutely love the colour pallet...another beauty Kathy
My vote is straight set, no sashing because I like the diagonal lines it brings out and the secondary pattern. You do kind of loose the individual stars that way... If the goalie to preserve those then you have to sash and then I would do on point. I like diagonal movement through a quilt I guess!
I like each layout so I'm no help but I think the first one is my favorite.
Good luck with this decision. :)
I think any of these would be great. What's the final purpose for this quilt. Sometimes that helps me decide what to do.
Beautiful blocks and fabrics! I like them on point the best!
You stirred the pot by asking! All lovely settings with very striking results.
I vote with Eden. I like the secondary pattern created by this block when it is not sashed and when it is not on point. I usually like blocks on point, but this is one that I prefer not. That said, it's your quilt!
How do you feel about string blocks? Your broken dishes stars look just like the ones from Jamestown Landing. It is a Bonnie Hunter pattern that was in an Australian magazine, but it is supposed to be in her next book. The stars you already have would make a great beginning.
I have lots of HSTs sitting around so I am anxious to see how this comes together...you always put together great quilts.
I think I like the 1st one best. I like the way the colours melt together in that one. There seems to be a secondary pattern forming, as well.
Very colorful! No opinion on sash, no sash from me, you'll just have to let the blocks boss you around again :)
It all depends on how big you want this quilt to be, or how big it "tells" you it wants to be. I like the secondary pattern in choice 1 too. On point always makes it bigger.
I like the secondary pattern created without the sashing. I can't wait to see the finished quilt. ;-)
The colors in this are just gorgeous! I love scrappy and secondary patterns, but I think layout #2 with sashing....not on pointe...really looks elegant and soothing to my eye. Good luck with your decision. I think whatever you choose it going to look great.

The blocks are wonderful. Love the colors. I think I would go for No sashing.
You used a lovely range of fabrics in your blocks! I kinda like the NO sashing option, looks more scrappy in a way, don't mind the sashing option either, but I'm leaning to No sashing!!!
Great looking blocks - I vote for the first one.
I like it without sashings, as you see the shadow image that way.
I like the one without sashing, gotta love the secondary stars!
Gorgeous and I am a no sashing vote. Lovely!
Any of the layouts would work but I seem most attracted to an on-point setting.
