First you have to find the perfect location to take a photo.
Isn't this a great rail fence?!?
Then you have to manage the weather conditions. As soon as we found the perfect place, the wind picked up and the quilt kept falling off the fence. We tried to think of different ways to drape it and put things on it to hold the quilt in place.
Too Windy |
Photo shoot assistants put sticks and rocks on the quilt to hold it down. |
Too Sunny Then it started to snow and about an hour later it looked like this outside. So of course I had to go out again to take another photo and see what it would look like. |
Too snowy |
Even though it was challenging to get a good photo, it was also a fun outing in the forest. Here is the shot that I decided on for the blog header.
Just right! |
For more information on this quilt, click here to read all about it. Okay... now I'm back inside to do some actual sewing so I'll have more quilts to share. Inside photos are so much easier to take!
I love the new blog header. Beautiful quilt and a great photo
ReplyDeleteYour quilt looks beautiful in the sun, woods or with the snow! Love that one of the outdoor photo shoots is in my backyard. That creek really does make everything look great!!
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is beautiful and the photo is fantastic! I will need to find a nice location to use for my next finish - you have inspired me!
ReplyDeleteThe weather and lighting can be very challenging for quilt photos at this time of year. The dog I. The photo is very cute! I’m sure he was a big help! The blog header photo is perfect!
ReplyDeleteI love taking photos outdoors, you did a great job.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt and colors.

I love to see the creative process. You give enough detail that anyone else could give it a try. I need to find a rail fence. Thanks for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely quilt for a fun photo shoot! Your new blog header looks wonderful :)
ReplyDeleteYou found a great place to take photos. Your new header is wonderful and so is the quilt. ;^)
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love! I too love taking pics outside, but the wind is a challenge here too....we have a wind tunnel in our back yard! Usually I just click and post...whatever LOL...but I do like to get nice pictures :-). This one turned out beautiful. And, the quilt is absolutely gorgeous. Getting in the mood to finish stuff here too!
ReplyDeleteThey all look good, I like the one with the snow too.
ReplyDeleteI love it! I don't think I saved the pattern when it was coming out - was this one Bonnie's mystery last year or the year before? I will have to look for it - I have all her books so maybe it is in one of them?
ReplyDeleteLovely pictures, all of them. And I like your story, just like I could have said it myself. I have so much fun taking my quilts outside for taking photoes. It may be easy to do it inside, but much more boring. Your header is great.
ReplyDeleteWe did an outing with one of my quilts recently and experienced the same thing. I have pictures of the quilt wrapping around my husband, thanks to the wind. Funny photos, but not good for a blog post. We did persist, and managed to snag a few good ones. That quilt is so pretty, Kathy! Enjoyed the pictures; you picked a great location!
ReplyDeleteIt’s a beautiful quilt. Living in the Pacific Northwest, it would be rare for me to take a photo of a quilt outside. It’s always wet and muddy, even on days with no rain.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt in such a beautiful range of settings. Reminds me of all of the outdoor shots in Kaffe Fasset knitting books.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteVery Pretty - your weather changes as fast as South Texas except we go the other way temp wise! Nice pictures - love the puppy!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on finishing your beautiful quilt and for persevering and getting such a great photo. I was wondering if you use a photo editor and if so which one? I had been using picmonkey but it is no longer available for free.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is beautiful and you got some great shots! I've had fun and games at times trying to get just the right photo too - the miss-takes tell a story all of their own sometimes!
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty quilt--and so much patience in photographing it--
ReplyDeleteluv, di
Perseverance wins the day! Beautiful quilt, great photos and a gorgeous new blog header.
ReplyDeleteIt's all about the 'staging' of those Blog Photos! Great backdrop for your En Provence. Glad you got it finished. Cheering you on from the PNW. Blog on! pmcrowtheratyahoodotcom
ReplyDeleteIt makes a beautiful header. That is still one of my favorite Bonnie Mystery quilts. Yours looks beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI've only worked that hard to photo a quilt one time. Nice photos.
ReplyDeleteImaginative post topic, Kathy. And what a stunning quilt! The weather has been changeable here as well, but frostbite warning in effect overnight tonight.
ReplyDeletereally beautiful no matter the crazy weather
ReplyDeleteIt does look like you had great fun! Your quilt is beautiful I love the colours!
ReplyDeleteI struggle with good photos. You had all four seasons in one day, LOL. Do you live in Indiana, we have that often. Your photos and blog are terrific and the quilt is AMAZING!
