You don't actually use your freezer for food, do you?!?
It's the perfect place for quilt block storage!
See my pile of Squared Away blocks sitting there in my freezer full of treasured projects?!? This was the RSC block of the month project in 2018.
I told myself I would make more blocks in 2019, since the collection of blocks was not really enough to make a bed quilt. But more blocks did not materialize as I became distracted with other projects. And that's one of the many ways a UFO is born!
Apparently I have lost interest in making more of these 5" blocks and needed to move on!
In December I just decided that I like the on point layout, but it needed to be bigger so I would add sashing and then borders as needed to grow the size of the quilt. I will be cutting the sashing pieces and hope to begin sewing it together today.

Design decisions and leader/ender blocks are a great way to ease your way back into quilting after being sick. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteHumm is the freezer on or is this an old refrigerator? LOL. You really do so many wonderful quilts!
ReplyDeleteStanding with the freezer door open looking at quilting blocks and deciding what to work on sounds a lot better than trying to figure out what is for dinner! Have fun with the sewing on the 2018 RSC quilt. Your leader and enders are looking great.
ReplyDeleteI like your design wall arrangement - everything is perkier set on point
ReplyDeleteSounds like you've successfully passed the roadblock of "what do I do next?" with this project. Full speed ahead! I like the on point layout, too :)
ReplyDeletelove your storage solution!
ReplyDeletelove your color blocking arrangement on your quilt.
Good plan! Any progress is good!
ReplyDeleteI like that on point design - add one more block and the half triangles and border and call it done if you are tired of it - it can always go on the table for a decoration
ReplyDeleteLove that little shoo-fly block...talk about having blocks on ice hahaha hugs, Julierose
ReplyDeleteYou must be feeling much better. Sewing really is good therapy!! Welcome back to the sewing room, now get busy, you have a mystery to sew up!!
ReplyDeleteOf course one uses the freezer for quilt block storage! Thanks for the giggle and the storage tip!
ReplyDeleteI'm happy to see your Squared Away blocks come out to play again, Kathy! However you decide to put them together, I think they'll be beautiful.
ReplyDeleteGood idea to move Squared Away along. It looks wonderful on point.
ReplyDeleteI should try some Shoo Fly blocks...next year...
The Squared Away blocks look good on point. Good for you! - taking it out of cold storage and moving it on towards completion.
ReplyDeleteI've got several sets of blocks that need to be put together and a box of orphan blocks too. Your idea for putting your blocks together is a great one!
ReplyDeleteThese blocks are fantastic! Lol about the freezer!! I actually have a small freezer in my studio but it's for stuff that doesn't fit in the freezer in the kitchen, imagine that!
ReplyDeleteLove your little shie flies. It reminds me I need to kit up more of those.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your storage fridge! I have to ask if quilt blocks ever go bad if they sit in the fridge too long? Do they grow mold?
ReplyDeleteMaybe that tells you more about the state of MY fridge than you need to know.
If you want those 5" blocks to make an even bigger quilt you could choose a pretty fabric to go in between them as setting squares.
Good luck with your quilt. Adding sashing and borders sounds like a good idea when you're tired of making blocks.
ReplyDeleteI really like your Shoo Fly Shoo blocks. It's a great way to show off some pretty fabric....Freezer?
The 2018 RSC quilt is a beauty. I really like your green Shoo Fly blocks too -- especially the one with the words in the middle. Way to make that center block fit!
