Slow Sunday Stitching

Welcome to the weekly hand stitching party!
coffee and stitching
It's time to get out your stitching project, a cup of your favourite beverage, and enjoy some relaxation.
These are the beverages enjoyed during a visit with family from Michigan last weekend. A visit to Tim's is always on the agenda!

I have finally made some progress with my embroidery project. I was hung up on the snowman block, tired of winter weather happening in the spring, and not wanting to finish it. I decided to buckle down and get the snowman block finished while we visited.

It was finally time to trace another block pattern using my fancy light box/window. I tape the pattern to the window, then tape the fabric on top of the pattern, and trace the design using a frixion pen. When the stitching is done, the marks easily disappear with heat. Sometimes the pen does result in a faint white line which is no problem since the line is hidden under the floss stitches.

I've been playing with layout ideas this week and wondered if these pastel batik frames might be nice for these sweet embroidery blocks.

What are you stitching by hand this week? Link up your blogpost below and share your progress with us. Every slow stitch counts!

  1. Love your beautiful embroidery. Sweet snowman, but now we don't want more winter. We were surprised with snow one day this week. Fortunately, it disappeared quickly. :-)

  2. I have a fancy light box, too. =) A window does the trick, doesn't it. I love the pretty pastels to border your sweet embroideries.

  5. I love your fancy light box. I have the EAST version of that... (my window faces east and I do it in the morning.) Glad that snowman is done for now. Hopefully snow and FROST is done so that we can get some gardening in soon. Have a great week, Kathy!

  6. do you like using your window for a light box? I have never been able to trace well like that and years ago broke down and bought a small light box someplace I don't remember where - the kind sold now are much better than what I have - on my Ipad I found an ap that turns the surface of your Ipad into a light box if you want the link I will find it

  7. It is hard to stitch on reminders of winter when you are more than ready for spring. Love those pastel Batiks with the embroidered blocks. Those colors are perfect. Happy slows stitching today.

  9. Great embroidery blocks. I use the same kind of fancy light box. I keep wanting to get one of those fancy ones, but they are much too expensive! Thanks so much for the link-up

  10. I used to have one of those light boxes now all the windows have wooden panes and there is not space for the pattern to fit just right. Love those pastel fabrics they look great with your sweet little embroideries, love the snowman too and hopefully Spring has found you.

  11. Hi Kathy: I totally understand about the winter weather, here in Minnesota we see four seasons in spring.
The snowman is just adorable, I love him.
I have never used the window like you have to trace, I like that idea better then my lite box which has a limited size to work on.
Loving the batik colors, they are soft and perfect for framing I think.

  15. Do you trace using different colors of frixion pens to match the color thread you'll use? Or do you just trace with the black frixion. I have a snowman stitchery that I lightly traced with pencil and I can't see much of the tracing so it's been sitting in a box for two years.
