Tradition with a twist |
This is Aurifil's latest DOM block called "Tradition with a twist". It was a real challenge for me and should not have been as hard as it was. It consists of 4 paper pieced curved log cabin blocks and I have made many log cabin blocks before. Click here to see the link up of finished blocks.
But what can I say... last week was just that kind of a week! Everything that can go wrong in the quilt studio... did go wrong. My seam ripper was used every day, and although I usually enjoy paper piecing, I was constantly making mistakes like this one where the fabric folds over on itself, or the added piece is too short for the space it should cover. It was just frustrating sewing, so I was very happy to see that when all was said and done, I really liked the finished block!
Here are the 10 Aurifil DOM blocks I have finished (includes a couple blocks from last year).

I'll have to watch for that sewalong next year....some very interesting blocks!
ReplyDeleteOh I really like the bottom one that sits all alone! Love your colour choices too!
ReplyDeleteLove your 'tradition with a twist block' - a whole quilt of this would be awesome!
ReplyDeleteLooks like positive and negative images. Your blocks are lovely - all of them. the blue/turquoise color scheme is beautiful. I have curved log cabin blocks on my to-do list minus the paper-piecing though :-p
ReplyDeleteInteresting blocks. Love the color range you are using.
ReplyDeleteIt is a pretty finished block. Can you look at it without angst now?
ReplyDeleteSuch a nice log cabin variation. There must have been something in the air because my seam ripper got a good workout last week too.
ReplyDeletePretty blocks. You chose nice fabrics for this DOM project.
ReplyDeleteInteresting blocks. I think the curved log cabin is my favorite, but they are all nice ones.
ReplyDeleteI feel your frustration! But the block is lovely so worth the effort!
ReplyDeletePaper piecing does have it's frustrations, but it looks like you tolerated those long enough to get a great block. It's an interesting set of blocks.
